The Saddle Light Center is a

non-profit corporation created in 1991

to help disabled people reach their full

potential.

Our mission is to provide

equestrian therapy for children, teenag-

ers and adults with

Our goal is to inspire our riders

to accomplishments previously

considered beyond their

capabilities.

Have you seen the new Saddle Light Center website?

Many thanks to Ellice Sanchez, Designer in Chief at Concept Incarnate. She created a much needed new website for us.

We appreciate all of her hard work and are thrilled with the result! Additionally, many thanks to volunteer and board

member Shelly Holm for all her hard work helping to get the website completed.

In January, Tim Tabbert at Alterman Electric sent a team over to fix the light by the office and one of the are-na lights. It has made evening lessons much easier and we thank him for his assistance!

On Saturday, Feb 27th, A military group from Lackland AFB in San Antonio came out to volunteer. They cleaned all saddles, vacuumed walls and shelves in the tack room. They wire brushed the mounting platform and the smaller mounting block by our arena then treated them with stain and water repellant. Thanks for your hard work!

On February 8th we received a donation of $3000 from Alamo Kiwanis Club to purchase some much needed new tack. Thank you to them for their continued support!

On February 23rd we received a donation of $2500 from the Amy Shelton McNutt Charitable Trust. This cov-ered the considerable expense of the annual check-up of our 11 horses. Many thanks for your support!

On March 11th we received a grant check of $500 from Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 3418 Southcross in San Antonio. Kerstin attended their store grand opening on March 16th. Special thanks to Patri-cia Martinez for your assistance!

In March UHVRC/AAEP donated the yearly inoculations for our 11 horses thanks to Dr. Robert Ball’s recom-mendation.

On March 19th AM630 KSLR sponsored the annual Morgan’s Wonderland Easter Egg Hunt and SLC attended.

In March L2PS Office Machine Specialists donated their time to clean and fix our two office printers. Thanks, Martin and Jason! If you are interested in their ser-vices you can contact them at [email protected].

In March David at Desks Galore donated a file cabinet and a storage cabinet to SLC. You can contact David at [email protected] Thank you David!

On March 26th UTSA Voices VP Programs had a group of students come out to volun-teer. They cleaned out the shelves in the feed room. We appreciate your help ladies!

On March 31st Larry Kendall from Veterans of Foreign Wars #837 (VFW) donated $1000 to go towards providing our services to the children in our program. Thank you for your contribution!

On April 9th Valero Volunteers spent their Saturday cleaning

the storage room next to our office. They cleaned the shelf units, storage boxes and all the toys. On top of that, they even painted the walls. We are very thank-ful to the Valero employees, Angela Speakman, Sheri Zook, Steve Aguilar, Hacene Benchikha, Katie Dean and Rachel Dean.

Happenings Around the Barn...

On April 23rd Cub Scout Pack 51 came out to SLC to learn about how and why horses are used for individuals with disabilities. They asked many good and rele-vant questions and hopefully gained understanding of Therapeutic Horseback rid-ing and Hippotherapy. Thanks for coming guys!

May 4th was the 2nd annual SLC Zoo Trip, sponsored by the Order of Alhambra Bejar No 56. We appreciate the sponsorship and everyone had a wonderful morning!

Our annual Rider Showcase on May 21st was another big hit! Kids, families and volunteers all had a wonder-ful day. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day so special!

Saddle Light Center Riders and families were invited to attend a day trip to Morgan's Wonderland on Thurs-

day, June 16th. The event lasted from 10:00am to 2:00pm with lunch and drinks provided. The outing was

sponsored by the Alamo Caravan No. 269 of the Order of Alhambra. We thank them for another fun day!

We’re looking for dedicated and committed volunteers for a not so ordinary volunteer opportunity!

...working with the Saddle Light horses and the children who benefit from equestrian therapy!

We need over 120 volunteers each week to provide chores such as rider assistance by spotting,

sidewalking, or horse leading, and horse care and barn chores. We also have opportunities for groups that

want to fulfill a specific service project (great for church groups, college clubs, work teams and more).

Volunteer hours are from 3 pm to 9 pm Monday through Friday. Most volunteers sign up for either a 3:00 to

6:00 shift or 6:00 to 9:00. We also need volunteers to assist with barn chores on Saturday and Sunday

mornings. Contact us for more info—(210) 651-9574 or [email protected].

No experience necessary! We will teach you what you need to know.
