We had 41 people at the meeting, and our meeting room was reminiscent of the Tardis as seemed to get bigger and bigger as more and more people arrived. It was a lively and inspiring meeting for us all. Emu bob for Clean-up-Australia Day Tam, Leanda and I, plus young Josh, helped clean-up-Australia at Runaway Bay last Sunday. We joined a small team of around 12 volunteers from all walks of life who collected 10kg of rubbish, with the biggest single item we picked up being cigarette butts. It was great to walk away from the clean up knowing we’d done something positive for our wonderful coastline. Tam hopes to organise another clean up day later in the year, and a big thanks to Tam for organising this. Message from Harold Busch… “Following the joint meeting of Broadbeach and Southport Rotary clubs at the shed it has been reported that an old slide projector (in working condition) is missing. I know it's a long shot, but could you ask around in case one of your members may have thought it belonged to a Southport member. Thanks, Harold.”

Please respond directly to Harold [email protected] Board report The Board minutes are now available on our website, at VIEW CLUB DOCUMENTS. Several matters were discussed that members will be particularly interested in, so I’ll email an overview to Club members. RHONDA

Scribes Report 6 March 2018 Chair Andrew M called the meeting to order asking all to join in the Four Way Test and then the toast to the Queen and Australia Rotary Minute. Marion J gave a very interesting address going through a list of recent Rotary international presidents and the theme they chose for their year. She also mentioned that our current RI president is an Australian and the previous one was Glen Kinross in 1997 -98 with the theme “ Show Rotary Cares” Marion provided table attractive decorations on the themes of various years to help bring home the various messages. President Rhonda welcomed all Rotarians and guests especially RYLA and NYSF participants and some parents. Joachim was welcomed back from Germany. Directors Reports Hugh Smith announced that the carousel should be up and running by 24 March and asked members to indicate which shifts they could do on a weekly basis. PE Graeme H appealed to members for two more directors to complete his board for Club and community service. The secretary Marion reported 41 present at the meeting. A show of hands for those attending the conference this weekend showed great support for the district. Sergeant Tony P used some Irish limericks to liven up his fines session, recycled from St Patricks day last year, and raised considerable funds with some group fines. Raffle winner Jordan Lim. Heads and Tails TonyG. Guest Speakers Our guests from RYLA were then invited to address us and Kayla Summers, Monty Lens, Josh Aitkin and Holly Rushton gave a lively report on their experiences at the RYLA camp and told how it had changed their lives. Each one addressed the meeting followed by a lively dance type presentation that had the whole meeting on their feet with arms waving. Their six day experience with 11 speakers taught them to listen- think- speak. All were very enthusiastic about the experience. Three students went to the NSYF in Canberra, Jordan Lim, Jodi Gagner and Alex Young. Jordan and Alex attend the Qld Academy of Health Science and Jodi was a student at St Stephens College. Each gave a presentation on their experience starting with the 22 hour bus trip to Canberra. All three said they gained enormously from the wide variety of science experiences they had and were very grateful to Rotary for making it possible. Neil R gave the vote of thanks and certificates were presented. Andrew read the duty roster for 20 March and Pres Rhonda thanked all for attending and closed the meeting. Ian C
