HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS
WEEK’S PROGRAM
As dinner service was concluded, PE Rich
Ryan escorted President Patrick
and PP Marilee Monagan escorted
Jennifer Magnani from the room .
IPP Roland Wright took over the podium
and gave an overview of the Demotion
Skit while PP Dominic Mecklenburg set
up A/V equipment and distributed
lightsabers to those in the audience.
Some Trivia:
It seems President Patrick is a Star Wars
aficionado and has decorated his “Man
Cave” with all sorts of memorabilia. His
love of all things “Star Wars” played well
into the theme of the Demotion skit. The
first Star Wars film was released on
May 25, 1977—EXACTLY two years before
Patrick’s birthdate. It was an omen.
When Patrick and Jennifer returned, they
had been transformed into Luke
Skywalker and Princess Leia. PP David
Stone served as Em cee Darth Vader.

To be recognized next were Jeff Donlevy,
who became a Paul Harris Fellow and
PP Marilee Monagan, who attained the
next level of recognition—PHF + 2. Marilee
now has two sapphires. Congratulations to
both Jeff and Marilee. Thanks for your
commitment to The Rotary Foundation and
its good works.
Each year the club’s Paul Harris Fellows are
asked to choose an individual who, in their
opinion, exemplifies the best of Rotary. This
year they chose IPP Roland Wright.
The sitting president also chooses a person to
receive a Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
This person is someone who has been the
most helpful to the president in achieving
his/her personal goals as well as those of the
club. President Patrick chose IPP Roland
Wright.
Congratulations to Roland on this
exceptional recognition.
Roland Wright and David Stone
Other Recognitions
As the evening progressed, President Patrick
recognized his board of directors and some
other individuals who are the cogs in the
wheel which makes our club successful.
Those individuals included
Board members Maureen McBride, Club
Administration Director; Rich Ryan,
President Elect and Community Service
Director; Marilee Monagan, International
Service Director; Bob Spears, Vocational
Paul Harris Recognitions
Following all the fun and frivolity, President
Patrick along w ith Rotary Foundation
Chair David Stone got down to som e se-
rious business. They recognized this year’s
Paul Harris Sustaining Fellows—those mem-
bers who contributed at least $100 to The Ro-
tary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Foothill-
Highlands is a 100% Sustaining Fellows Club.
Thanks to everyone for helping the club
achieve this status.
Darth Vader presented Patrick with an official
Certificate which stated that as of this date, he
had achieved the Stature of Jedi Knight.
Jedi are the guardians of tranquility
throughout the universe; they defend
and protect and never attack without
provocation. Jedi respect life and its di-
versities. Jedi is a service for the good of
creation. Jedi seek wisdom, knowledge
and maturity in the universal light.
Sounds a lot like being a Rotary Club President.
The fun continued with a duel between Darth
Vader and Luke Skywalker when several guests
who had the infamous lightsabers filled them
with water and joined the fracas. Luke Sky-
walker appeared to be the wettest warrior so
one would surmise —he lost the battle.
We were then treated to a video tribute high-
lighting President Patrick’s life including the
early years; his family, who he adores; his ca-
reer path and his role as President.
A BIG thank you to PP Dominic Mecklenburg
for the outstanding job he did putting the video
together. Well done!!
