VOCATION CORNER The celebration of Father’s Day gives us a timely opportunity to reflect on the unique role fathers play in the life of the family, in society, and in the Church. In the church’s eyes, fatherhood, like all parenthood, is a vocation, a call. Above all, God calls fathers to put love into practice in the concrete circumstances of their lives. Fathers do not guide children simply by speaking words of wisdom to them. They are good listeners, too. Children are a perpetual revelation of the newness of life, which can sometimes feel like a lot to accept, absorb, and handle. But fathers teach what nurturing, compassion, and mercy look like from an explicitly masculine manifestation. In The Joy of Love, Pope Francis wrote “no family drops down from heaven, perfectly formed; families need constantly to grow and mature in the ability to love. This is a never-ending vocation.” In that regard, we should turn to the best earthly father, St. Joseph, each day, but especially today, on Father’s Day, and ask for his intercession by praying, “St. Joseph, model of domestic life, patron of families, exemplar of fathers, pray for us and for our fathers.” - The Vocation Ministry Team
Reading I: Job 38:1, 8-11 The Lord addressed Job out of the storm and said: Who shut within doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb; when I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling bands? Consequently, from now on we regard no one according to the flesh; even if we once knew Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him so no longer. So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

Boys & Girls in Grades K-5 get ready to experience the Mass in a whole new way. Through music, games, crafts, snacks, and great faith lessons, the Mass will come alive with a deeper love for Jesus present in the Eucharist! Volunteers are needed. Call the Parish Office (724)437-4441. All volunteers age 18 or older must have all current clearances. Registration Forms for Students and Volunteers are located in the vestibules. Parents: Be sure to fill out the waiver that is attached as well.
We thank everyone who contributed cookies and refreshments for Fr. Vincent’s farewell reception last Sunday. He was most appreciative for the kindness shown to him. We are grateful for his time with us and wish him well on his new assignment as Pastor of St. Edward Parish, Herminie and Seven Dolors Parish, Yukon, with residence at St. Edward Parish Rectory, 120 St. Edwards Lane, Herminie, PA 15637.
You are invited to join us Saturday, June 26th at 4:00 p.m. for a Mass celebrated by Bishop Larry Kulick at St. Therese Church. This will be Bishop Kulick’s first Mass at the parish as he travels around the Diocese to celebrate streaming liturgies in the coming weeks. FEAST OF FAITH: The Collection: A Privilege As the altar is prepared for the celebration of the Eucharist, the collection is taken up. In the early church, this part of the Mass must have been something to behold, as the people suddenly began to move, bringing forward to the deacons and priests freshly-baked bread and fine wine. Then, after the Eucharistic Prayer, that same community came forward again in the Communion procession, and they received back the very gifts they had given, now transformed into something infinitely more precious than bread and wine: the very Body and Blood of Christ. Beginning around the eleventh century, it became the custom for people to present money instead of bread and wine, and the procession of the faithful gradually disappeared (it survives in the liturgy of Holy Thursday). But the meaning is the same. We continue to bring the fruit of our labors and to offer them freely to God. And God continues to transform them into Christ. It is through our generous sharing of time, talent, and treasure that our parishes can preach the gospel, reach out to the sick and the imprisoned, and celebrate the sacraments. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. E M D : This weekend is the last opportunity the view the exhibit of Eucharistic Miracles being displayed in the St. Joseph Parish Social Hall on Saturday, June 19th from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 20th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about these most inspiring Vatican Approved Eucharistic Miracles. L M S : Printed schedules for Altar Servers, Lectors, and Extraordinary Ministers are available this weekend, June 19/20, in the St. Joseph, St. John, and St. Mary sacristies, and the usher’s room at St. Therese. The schedule begins next weekend, June 26/27. Phone number lists will be mailed to all ministers for use when you need to obtain a substitute. Contact Nancy at the Parish Office if you do not receive the contact list in your postal mail. A “4” P C M : Members of the Pastoral Council of all four Uniontown Parishes are to attend a meeting at the St. Therese Parish Center on Monday, June 21st at 6:30 p.m. A “4” P C : All singers are invited to join an All-Four Parish Choir for Mass with Bishop Kulick on Saturday, June 26th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Therese Church. To prepare, you may choose to attend rehearsal at St. Therese Church on Sunday, June 20th at 10:15 a.m. or Wednesday, June 23rd at 6:00 p.m. Immediately prior to Mass on June 26th, please arrive at 2:45 p.m. for a rehearsal/warm-up. Also, youth (grade 3 and older) and adults interested in becoming altar servers for weekend Masses or funerals should attend this session. E M U T : Deacon Chris will lead an updating session for all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who serve at weekend Masses or take Communion to the Homebound for our four parishes. Revised protocols will be reviewed so that everyone is current about "what to do" when serving. The meeting will be held at St. Mary Parish Center on Tuesday, July 13th at 6:30 p.m. You are asked to make every effort to attend. B D D : The St. Therese Boosters are happy to announce they will be able to plan the Dinner Dance this year. It will be held Saturday, November 6th at the Uniontown Fire Hall. Tickets are $80.00. The evening includes dinner, a regressive drawing for cash prizes, dancing, plus a late-night buffet. As a ticket holder, you and one guest are invited to attend the dinner. If you are unable to attend, you may send a proxy using your ticket to represent you and act for you at the dinner. You, as a ticket holder, are entitled to all awards and prizes, even if you are not present. All ticket holders are also eligible to win weekly cash awards of $80.00 from June 23rd to November 3rd! P ’ P C /S H S C : Next weekend the annual Peter’s Pence and the Support of the Holy See Collection will be taken at all Masses. This combined collection supports the charitable works of the Holy Father and helps the diocese meet it’s obligation to contribute to the support of the operational expenses of the Holy See. We, along with Catholics worldwide, share in the concern of the successor of Peter for the many different needs of the universal Church and for the relief of those most in need around the globe.
