The roles of a teacher in classroom

Answer

There are variety of different ways that a teacher needs to manage the activities and the learners in the classroom. In other words, he or she needs to behave in different ways at different stages of the lesson. These different kinds of behavior are called teacher roles. Teacher roles are changed during a lesson according to the type of lesson, activities, lesson aims, the level and age of the learners. Here are some roles teachers often use1. Planner: the teachers have to be well-prepared and think through the lesson in detail before teaching it so that it has variety. Moreover, there should be appropriate activities for the different learners in the class.

For example: these questions should be answered so as to make a good lesson plan

Objectives- What are the needs and proficiency levels within the class?- What am I trying to get my students to achieve? Level- What level is proficiency level? ( beginner, intermediate, or advanced)- What is the age level?

Time- How long is the lesson?

Materials- What materials are needed to complete the tasks of this lesson?

Set-up- How will the students complete the task?- In pairs, groups, or individually?- How will the classroom be arranged for the task? ( all desks moved to form a semi-circle, desks back-to-back, horseshoe shaped )

Warm-up- How will introduce the students to the activity / lesson theme in an energetic and creative way?- What kinds of warm-up activities that can make students brainstorm? Process / Activity- What are the instructions for the students to complete the task?- When explaining instructions be as clear as you possibly can and always try to demonstrate the task with the student

Follow-up- How will the content explored in this lesson be reinforced in future lessons? (communicative activities)

Evaluation- How will I measure the learning of the students? ( an exercise sheet, a group presentation using new vocabulary )

2. Manager: a good lesson cannot be taken placed unless these following points are set up in advance

Organizing the learning space, makes sure everything in the classroom is running smoothly (checking the classroom, projector, whiteboard, video, flashcards, images, photos, authentic materials)

Setting up rules and routines for behavior and interaction. For instance, English is only used in the class, no phone in class Besides, useful phrases should be stuck on the walls, which helps them to communicate naturally while doing activities in class3. Prompters: a good preparation will be nothing if a teacher do not have suitable follow-ups methods as some example below Going around the class during individual, pairs and group work activities to make sure all learners are taking part in the activities and they are doing what a teacher want them to do

Encouraging students, praise them when they give the correct answers. It has a positive effect on motivation (good job, very good, well-done, lovely, fantastic, great, awesome, fabulous)

Pushing them to achieve more ( its ok just slowly, take a deep breath, stop and start over, very nice and?)

Feeding in a bit of information or language (key words, hints) to help them proceed Correcting mistakes that students make, but do not correct students halfway through a sentence as well as overcorrect. Better to use non-verbal language to correct students, which makes them feel like they can correct their mistakes by their own4. Rapport builder: a lesson will probably be more successful as long as a good relationship between learners and a teacher are established Trying to remember students names as much as possible. A teacher can create some games to keep students names in their mind. Take who you are? game (each student takes turn to introduce themselves in the impressive / exclusive way to be remembered) as an example. Caring for students Listening to students whenever they need. 5 last minutes should be established for those who need supports ( Do you have any questions?, dont hesitate to ask me if you dont understand, send email to me if you need further explanation). Besides, being aware of students reactions (eye-contact, gesture on their faces) to see whether they get the point

Respecting students: many students many minds. Hence, a teacher should be really patient to solve the problems when some students are extremely slow or do unplanned things Being even-handed: pay more attention to shy or quiet students, make them more self-confident instead of active ones. Dont put them aside when it is hard for them to cooperate in the class. Treat them equallySometimes a teacher takes on more than one role simultaneously to make his or her teaching more enjoyable.
