A WIMPS Crew is a learning community. A Coach recognises that they will help their Crew learn as well as learn from their Crew. They are not teachers; they work alongside their Crew to achieve aims important for the young people. They EXLOG�FRQÀGHQFH�DQG�FDSDFLW\�DQG�OHDG�WKH�JURXS�IURP�EHKLQG���A Coach offers reliability and consistence to Crew members, attending and planning for all meetings and communicating effectively using agreed methods to the WIMPS youth worker and their Crew at all times. A Coach may be involved in identifying and setting up a Crew. Alternatively, they may begin coaching after a Crew have been formed. A Coach works closely with the WIMPS Youth Worker to develop and maintain their Crew.

WHAT DOES A COACH DO?

They will

be responsible for obtaining and maintaining

registration & administration documents such

as media release, child protection, health and

safety

Be responsible for the health and safety for

everyone at the venue where the Crew meets.

All of these will be covered in Coach training.

A Coach will be given ongoing training, however, understands that they are responsible

for planning and facilitating sessions unaided.

A Coach works alongside their Crew to draw out the issues of most importance within

the area and tackle these.

A Coach works with a group of young people to create a Crew; helping them to

understand the aims and opportunities WIMPS presents and making full use of the

website and its tools to achieve this.

A Coach acts, for as long as is necessary, as a spokesperson for the Crew to political

representatives and other involved parties. A Coach is a contact person for community

institutions and (in the initial stages only) is the face of the Crew.

when to pull back and allow the young people to become take on these roles and be

their own leaders.

A Coach supports the development of Crew ideas within the vision of WIMPS,

overseeing the production of Crew generated content (* understanding of appropriate

material).

The content produced for the web site is the result of the work that Crew and Coaches

GR�WRJHWKHU��7KH�&UHZ�ZLOO�EH�H[SHFWHG�WR�SURGXFH�

FRQWHQW�UHOHYDQW�WR�WKHLU�OLYHV��EXW�

should also initiate and participate in comments and conversations on the WIMPS.tv

web site.

A Coach will work with young people on media production and issues of political

relevance. Training will be given on youth work and media to facilitate this.

A COACH WILL:

Initiate campaigns (while encouraging the Crew to

initiate their own in due course)

Encourage discussion on The Loop

Publicise Crew content using social media and

other publicity tools

For some Crew, there will be two Coaches. A Coach is required to build and maintain a strong, respectful working relationship with their co-Coach. Roles and responsibilities should be agreed according to the strengths of each Coach and the priority should be to foster an open and welcoming environment for old and new members. A Coach encourages diversity of people and opinion within their Crew. They recognise that drawing out the opinions of their Crew members is prioritised over sharing their own personal opinions, how-HYHU�GLIÀFXOW�WKLV�PD\�EH���
