    Arakan Rohingya Union Receives

    Registration in the United Statesas an NGO

    The Organization Constitutes Twenty-five Rohingya Organizations Worldwide

    UniversityPark,PA,USA.TheSecretariatofArakanRohingyaUnion(ARU)inPennsylvania,USA,recently

    announced the achievement of registration from the

    Of?iceoftheSecretaryofStateinPennsylvania. ARU,

    now asa legitimate NGO intheUnitedStates,is fully

    functional, and advancing towards its goals in

    cooperation with government agencies and NGOsworldwide for restoration of the basic human rights

    andpoliticalrightsoftheRohingyaethnicminorityin

    Burma (Myanmar). ARUwas formedat theRohingya

    ConventioninJeddah,SaudiArabia,organizedbythe

    Organization of Islamic Cooperation based in Jeddah

    Saudi Arabia and the Euro-Burma Of?ice in Brussels,

    Belgium.The convention issued a jointstatement on

    theformationoftheARUtoseekapoliticalsolutionto

    theproblemsfacedbytheRohingyapeople.Theunion

    is currently composed of twenty-?ive organizations,

    wasformedontheagreedprinciplesofanindivisible

    Arakan State in Burma, peaceful co-existence,

    democracy,humanrights,andfederalism.

    TheMissionsofARU:! Restoration ofcitizenship andethnic rights of theindigenous Rohingya minority in the Union of

    Myanmar.! ImprovinglivingconditionsforRohingyapeopleinArakan and in Rohingya refugee communities in

    othercountries.! SeekingbetterprotectionforRohingyaandMuslimcommunitiesatlargeinMyanmar.TheStrategiestoAccomplishtheMissions:! To engage in dialogue with the Government of

    Myanmarthroughpeacefulmeans.! To acquire material and moral support frominternationalagenciestoimprovelivingconditions

    Mr.HarnYawnghwe,DirectorofEuro-BurmaOfice,Belgium,

    Dr. Wakar Uddin, Director General of ARU, and prominent

    senior Rohingya leader, Dr. Mohammed Yunus, discuss the

    peaceful means of ARUs engagement with Government of

    Myanmar.

    The Secretary General of the Organization of theIslamicCoperation(OIC),Prof.EkmeleddinIhsanoglu,

    calledforunityamongRohingyaandallMuslims.The

    call highlighted the importance of the Meeting of

    SeniorLeadersofArakanRohingyaUnion(ARU)and

    the Euro-Burma Of?ice (EBO), according to Talal

    Daous, the Director of the Department of Muslim

    Minorities in OIC. The call stems from a resolution

    adoptedbytheThirtySeventhSessionoftheCouncil

    of Foreign Ministers held in Dushanbe, Republic of

    Tajikistan,inMay2011.[TheCouncil]commendsthe

    effortsoftheSecretaryGeneralaimedatcoordinating

    the work of the Rohingya Muslim organizations and

    4.CommendstheeffortsoftheSecretaryGeneralwhichresulted in the formaDon of a United Rohingya

    RepresentaDves abroad at the General Secretariat on

    31st May, 2011 in implementaDon of paragraph 4 of

    ResoluDon No. 4/37-MM, with a view to coordinaDng

    amongstthemselvestofindapoliDcalsoluDonstotheir

    problems,achievepeacefulco-existence,democracyand

    human rights and calls on the Secretary General to

    conDnuehiseffortstoregaintheirrightsinfull.

    5. Requests the Secretary-General to contact the

    GovernmentofMyanmartourgethelaertoreceivean

    OICMission tovisitMyanmar inordertoexamine thecondiDons of Muslims there and persuade the

    GovernmentofMyanmartocreateconducivecondiDons

    for Arakan Muslims to return to their home and to

    reportthereontothenextCFM.

    6.CallsontheMemberStatestoconDnuetoextendall

    possible forms of support and assistance toMyanmar

    MuslimsandparDcularlytothoseamongthemlivingas

    refugeesoutsidetheirhomeland.

    7. Requests the Secretary-General to follow up the

    implementaDonofthisresoluDonandreportthereonto

    the Thirty-ninth session of the Council of ForeignMinisters.

    ARU extended its deepest appreciaDon to the

    OrganizaDon of Islamic CooperaDon Members of the

    Council ofForeignMinisters for this historic resoluDon

    concerning the Muslims in Myanmar, parDcularly the

    human rights and poliDcal issues facing the Rohingya

    ethnicminority.ARUstronglyurgedthe OICSecretary-

    General,His Excellency Prof. r.Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu

    to immediately iniDate theprocess for implementaDon

    oftheresoluDonandreporttothe39thsessionofthe

    againstRohingyaethnicminority.ARUhaddemandedthat the parliament and the BurmeseMilitary Junta

    must take immediate steps to retract the false

    statements made by its minister at the parliament

    sessions,anduncondiDonallyreinstateallthepoliDcal

    andhumanrightstotheRohingyaethnicminority.

    OIC Adopts Resolution on

    Muslim Community in Myanmar

    in its Session of Council ofForeign Ministers

    Arakan Rohingya Union Welcomes theResolution with Enthusiasm and Hope

    Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Arakan Rohingya Union

    (ARU) expressed its graDtude to the OrganizaDon of

    IslamicCooperaDon(OIC)ResoluDonNo.4/38-MMon

    the situaDon of Muslim community in Myanmar

    duringthe38thSessionofCouncilofForeignMinisters

    (Session of Peace, CooperaDon, and development)

    held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, June 28-30,

    2011. ARU uncondiDonally supports the enDre

    resoluDon,whichisasfollows:

    1.CallsupontheGovernmentofMyanmartoputan

    end the operaDons of displacement, expulsion, and

    exileofArakanMuslimsandtotheconDnuedaempts

    to eradicate their Islamic culture and idenDty, and

    urges government authoriDes to respect the textsof

    internaDonallegiDmacyonhumanrights.

    2.CallsonMemberStatestoconDnuetheireffortsin

    conjuncDonwiththoseoftheinternaDonalcommunityandtheUnitedNaDonsinordertoensurethereturnof

    all Myanmar refugees displaced from their homes,

    parDcularly the Muslims of the Arakan region of

    Myanmar.

    3.Expresses deep concern over the conDnued

    monumental violaDon of the rights of Rohingya

    Muslims in the Arakan region of the Republic of

    Myanmar, and requests the Secretary General to

    conDnuehiseffortstoendthesepracDcesin
