Principal’s Report Parents on school grounds It has come to my attention that as parents and caregivers you are not aware that the school grounds are considered private property. The reason I am mentioning this is to remind parents/caregivers, brothers, sisters, etc. that entry onto school grounds is not a right. You are not, under any circumstances, permitted to approach any student and verbally reprimand them for issues that may occur at school or in the community. If you are concerned about an incident that has occurred, or a particular issue, you need to raise it with a Classroom Teacher, an Executive or myself. Inappropriate behaviour on school grounds can lead to the ’Enclosed Land Act’ being enforced, which means that parents/caregivers can be banned from entering school grounds. Staff Development Days—Term 2 As many of you will be already aware, we are working hard to up-skill ourselves for the implementation of the NSW Syllabus—Australian Curriculum, which comes into place in 2014. So that schools can have time to complete training, the Department of Education & Communities has put in place a second staff development day at the start of Term 2. These dates are the 29th & 30th April. Students will return to school on Wednesday 1st May. Emergency Drill From time to time we have to practice our emergency drills. Yesterday we had an evacuation due to a hypothetical incident at school. This was a great success with no students, staff or visitors to the school lost or injured. We will have more during the year. Parent Survey I am currently working on an extremely important survey, which will go out to all primary/infants parents and caregivers and then students. The aim of the survey is to give us very honest and upfront information about why some parents/caregivers don’t choose to send their primary students to our secondary classes. I know some of the information that you would like to give us may be controversial, or you may think that we are not really interested and just going through the motions, but please let me assure you that all surveys will be sent with an envelope addressed to me and I will be the only person reading the individual responses, then collating them for the staff. The simple fact is that we are losing valuable and talented staff due to the numbers of students choosing not to enrol in our secondary program. Currently we provide as broad a curriculum as other much larger high schools, our secondary results are continually on the rise and have far fewer student-based issues such as bullying, truanting and smoking. This is a serious problem that can only be solved with your help. Principal’s Report

Parents on school grounds

It has come to my attention that as

parents and caregivers you are not

aware that the school grounds are

considered private property. The reason

I am mentioning this is to remind

parents/caregivers, brothers, sisters,

etc. that entry onto school grounds is

not a right. You are not, under any

circumstances, permitted to approach

any student and verbally reprimand

them for issues that may occur at

school or in the community. If you are

concerned about an incident that has

occurred, or a particular issue, you need

to raise it with a Classroom Teacher, an

Executive or myself.

Inappropriate behaviour on school

grounds can lead to the ’Enclosed Land

Act’ being enforced, which means that

parents/caregivers can be banned from

entering school grounds.

Staff Development Days—Term 2

As many of you will be already aware, we

are working hard to up-skill ourselves

for the implementation of the NSW

an evacuation due to a hypothetical

incident at school. This was a great

Last Tuesday , students from the

Agriculture class, joined by Mr Price-Jones and

Mrs Lever, went on an excursion to the

Narrandera Fisheries.

On arrival, we were taught what to feed the fish.

After a small tour of the aquariums, we then went

on to learn how the fish are captured,

documented, bred and released. We were also

very lucky to have had a tour of the breeding

ponds and tanks used to house the fry. We all

found it extremely interesting, educational and

highly enjoyable.

On behalf of the Agricultural class, we would like

to thank Mr Price-Jones and Mrs Leaver for

organising the trip and driving us there. We hope

to go again next year.

Fire truck

visits

K-2 classes

On Thursday, Mr Jansen came and I learned ‘stop,

drop and roll’ and he came in the fire truck and he

came on the oval. by Victoria Li, Year 1

In the morning on Thursday, which was yesterday,

Jacob’s dad came to school in his fire truck. My class enjoyed going on the fire truck. The kids were very

happy to see Mr Jansen. Mrs Driscoll tried some firemen clothes on her and she was very funny.

by Callie Metcalf, Year 1

In the morning, Jacob’s dad came with his truck and he let us hop on it. It was at the school. We tried to

spray Mrs Driscoll and he told us to ‘stop, drop and roll’. by Aleesha Robertson, Year 2

In the morning, on Thursday, Jacob’s dad came to the school in his fire truck. The fire truck was red,

black and white. Mr Jansen, Mrs Evans, Mrs Campton, Mrs Jansen and our teachers came with us. He

taught us to ‘stop, drop and roll’. We got to go on the truck. Mrs Evans took some pictures.

by Aaron O’Connor, Year 2

It was yesterday morning and Jacob’s dad came in the fire truck. He came to help us with safety. I got

to use the hoses and go on the fire truck and we had to ‘stop, drop and roll’. It happened on the oval and

we had lots of fun. by Callum Gardiner, Year 2

CODES OF CONDUCT

STUDENTS’ CODE FOR SUPPORT OF FAIR PLAY

Play for the fun of it.

Play by the rules and always abide by the decisions of officials.

Control your temper. Make no criticism either by word or gesture. Deliberately distracting

or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport.

Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so

will your own.

Be willing to train and prepare for the game or competition. Preparation helps prevent

injuries and increases the level of enjoyment.

Play only when you are fully fit. To play with an injury will handicap your team and may ex-

pose you to the risk of further and more serious injury.

Be a good sport. Applaud the good play of your team-mates and that of your opponents.

At all times, co-operate with your coach, team-mates and opponents, for without them you

do not have a competition.

Remember the goals of the game are to have fun and improve your skills. Be modest in

success and generous in defeat.

CODES OF CONDUCT

PARENTS’ CODE FOR SUPPORT OF FAIR PLAY

Encourage your child to always play by the rules.

If children are interested in sport, encourage them to participate. Refrain from forcing an

unwilling child to participate.

Remember that children participate in organised school sports for their enjoyment and

fulfilment, not yours.

Teach your child that honest effort is as important as winning, so that the result of each

game is accepted without undue disappointment.

Encourage your child to work towards skill improvement. Never ridicule your child for

making a mistake or losing a competition.

Always encourage the principle of good sportsmanship.

Children learn best by example. Applaud good play by individuals and all teams.

Do not publicly question the official’s judgement and never their honesty.

Appreciate the contribution and commitment of teachers in coaching positions. They

give their time and resources to provide sporting activities for your child and deserve

your support.

Have realistic expectations for your child and her or his team. Do not expect more than

they can give.

Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.

Condemn the use of violence in any form.

CODES OF CONDUCT

SPECTATORS’ CODE FOR SUPPORT OF FAIR PLAY

Students play organised sport for their own enjoyment.

Always respect the decisions of officials.

Never encourage physical or verbal abuse of players, coaches, officials or other

spectators.

Applaud good play by your own team and that of the opposing team.

Show respect for your opponents. Without them, there would not be a game.

Never ridicule a player for making a mistake or losing a competition.

Encourage players to always play according to the rules.
