U11A - Round 9v Southern Spirit at Eve Williams Oval

Clash of the top of the table.A minute silence was observed respectfully by both teams, coaches and supporters for fellow cricketer Phillip Hughes. RIP 408

Narara won the toss and elected to field.Narara bowled tightly limiting Southern Spirit to 72 runs. Cody Starr 1 for 9, Dev Sing 1 for 3, Harry Hudson 1 for 9 and Alexander Bell 2 for 11.Accurate fielding and catching limited the runs.In reply runs were hard to get. At 2 for 23 after 10 overs and 4 for 40 after 15 overs Narara seemed in trouble.

Exceptional running between wickets and batting by Alexander Bell and Cody Starr saw Narara home with 8 balls to spare.

U11 South at Paddy Clifton 2.Narara White V Narara Green Round 9 The greens had showed us how to play in round 2. the better team on the day. Toby Fitzgibbon starting for the Greens, runs and wickets.

Both teams primed for the return game. Perfect conditions, if you like it hot, some don’t. A P.M. game, different, reminded me of times gone by.. Using the secret 2 headed coin, which hasn’t worked as yet. Bailey, our Captain approached the Greens skipper, lets toss he said, ting up it went, hovering for what seemed like a week, finally landing on it’s edge, Coaches, Captains standing looking, waiting, waiting, finally, yes, Bailey saying, you can bat, in that serious tone of voice that only a mother knows. Bailey approaches the coach, I want a new ball, coach replies, unsure of the response, no, we used it last game, I could see he was not happy and quickly changed the subject. I hadn’t mention that I had borrowed 2 lads from the Narara cubs, also U11s but playing in the central Div. Nic Rowan and Jack Sinnott. Young Mr Rowan bowled extremely well, 3 overs 2/2, aided by some good fielding by our new recruit, Ryle and Jazmine who took a good catch fielding somewhere near cover. Elliott and Andrew chipping in with a wicket each. Jack Sinnott bowls well without luck. Some very good wicket keeping by Bailey and Elliott when the speed machine was operating from the northern end, (that,s Andrew for those who don’t know). We rolled them for 70. Enough you think, read on. Our captain strode to the crease in a

determined mood with Nic Rowan. I was confident, all looked good , bad luck struck, a run out, Bailey out for 5. Elliott and Nic steadied the ship, then Elliott was out, caught for 9, coach has not panicked, yet, The speed machine walks to the crease with that beaming smile, coach knows he’s dew for runs and Andrew delivers, 23 n.o. along with Nic, 18, gets us home 81. Fantastic game from both side. Thanks to Chris Rowan for finding Jack and Nic and letting them play their second game in 2 hours, great effort by allTeam award went to Nic and Andrew, both retired N.0. Ron Durrant

Division 3 - Round 7 Vs Southern Spirit

Round 7 saw us in a two day game against Southern Spirit. Our first responsibility was to pay our respects to Philip Hughes which was quite a sobering moment. An interesting sidelight was that both teams had a pair of twins in the eleven. The opposing skipper tossed the coin and I called incorrectly as usual and we were sent into bat which was what I was going to do anyway. We lost 3 early wickets which brought Steve Watts (Wattsy) and Alex Montgomery(Gom) together in an 80 run partnership before Wattsy was dismissed for 53. Not long after we also lost Gom for 25 with the score at 5/119. The tail wagged though and we finished all out for 158 with Matty Maccabe batting well to finish not out 13. This left us with 21 overs at the Spirit till stumps. Matty Maccabe and Pete Richardson opened up bowling tightly from the start. Pretty soon they were beating the bat more than hitting it. Matty took the first wicket with a lovely outswinger that was swallowed by Wattsy at 1st slip. Jordan Fitzgibbon did the same to the other opener and this one was neatly snared by Aras Baird at 2nd slip. At the end of day one the Spirit were 2/42 off their 21 overs.

Threats of showers greeted us on Day 2 with the umpire reminding us that we need 50 overs to constitute a match. Jordan “gummy bear” Fitzgibbon and Pete “richo” Richardson resumed their tight lines despite some lusty swinging and we took the first wicket of the morning at 61. From then on it was a procession of wickets until the last wicket fell with the score on 103. The Spirit lost 7/42 to hand us a 1st innings win. Richo and Gummy bowled unchanged to the end of the innings. Richo had the best figures of 18 overs 5/38 and Gummy 17 overs 4/40. A big thank you to Keegan Montgomery who subbed in the field as we were one short on the second day. Unfortunately even though we won the game Terrigal won outright this round and moved two points ahead of us on the ladder.Written by Garry Crowe

Round 8, Narara Wyoming Div 3 vs Northern Power At Alan Davidson Oval

Day one saw no Play across the coast in Div 3 as two of the 4 grounds to be used were unplayable on Day 1. The boys from North won the toss and elected to bat, with Pete Richardson (Richo) and Adam Montgomery (Yak) opening proceedings for us, with the latter bowling his 8 overs straight picking up the first 3 wickets.

Then the wheels fell off the fielding of a number of our guys as we grassed 9 catches in the remainder of the game. In the midst of the butterfingers, we somehow managed to hang on to 9 including a screamer to our superstar fill in Ben Wilkinson, showing the fumblers how its done. Stuart Owen (sweetie) chimed in with 3 wickets, while Phil Anderson (Ando or VernonPhilAnderson) and Richo sclaped 2 each to snuff out the Power for 141 in 38.4 overs.

The Chase begun in disastrous fashion with Sweetie calling Crowey through for a run that was never there. Ando and Sweetie came together and righted the ship. Again we lost both of them in quick succession, failing to consolidate the loss of wicket to be 3 for 44 of which Phil had 28. We then lost wickets without any major partnerships to be 5 for 78, then 6 for 105 when the Skip lost some poles to the Powers usual Wicket keeper. Fortunately the Yak and Kered (B1, Crossfit, 3PO, Lloyd) combined for an unbeaten stand that took us to victory with 3 overs to spare, B1 notching 44 not out.

While we came away with the points we were far from good in the field or with the bat in what should have been an easy win.Written By Mal Barsing
