This is your newsletter! One way to make it more personal for the entire membership would be to publish birthdays and anniversaries. Maybe you would receive a card or phone call wishing you the best. If you are so inclined, please email or call me with your information and I will include the birth dates or anniversaries for each month. You do not have to include the year! Just the month and day. Don’t forget your significant other and children...they are members too!

Old Stars and Their Cars This is great! Jean Harlow and her ‘34 Cadillac Split Limo. What a spectacular photo of an elegant time gone by....never to be duplicated again by today’s “jelly-bean” cars and our virtual reality actors and actresses.

The Memorial Day parade was more successful this year than it was last year. CLC member attendance doubled! At least one person who hasn’t attended a parade in a number of years decided it was time to join the group again. Isn’t it time that you came to an event? Please see Jim Sal-mi’s article in the July issue to get all of the details on the event.

It is almost time for the summer tour to Pueblo to begin. Messrs. Washburn and Cutler have a great trip planned. I’m told that 17 people will be mak-ing the trek and a good time will be had by all. It’s not too late to join them (assuming you read this before June 7th). You can go to our web site and look at previous issues of The Dagmar to get all of the details.

The week after the Pueblo Tour, on June 17th, Blaise Flaherty has invit-

ed us to the retirement home where his wife works for a Father’s Day car show and picnic. Those who have at-tended in the past really enjoyed the day. I plan to join them this year. The older men, especially, enjoy seeing our cars. Jim Salmi sent an email to everyone on May 8th with informa-tion on the show. Additional infor-mation is printed on page 8 of this8 of this issue. To register, contact Blaise at [email protected] or (303) 302-5768.

Leonard Johnson brought a special guest to the May meeting. Bo Parfet talked about the Gilmore Car Muse-um fame. Bo’s style of speaking was both fun and interesting. Everyone in attendance enjoyed his presentation. Following the meeting I reminded Leonard that he is on tap to be the speaker at the June meeting. He bet-ter not forget! At the July meeting July meeting

our guest will be Paula Sarlls. Paula is our contact with the Women’s Ma-rines Association. She will be talk-ing to us about the Colorado Yellow Ribbon event happening in August, which we have committed to attend-ing.

Please join us for the June meeting. We continue to meet at the Denver Elks Lodge on 26th Ave, near Speer Blvd. and I-25. The Elks Lodge serves soup and salad, beef or bison hamburgers, fries and dessert for only $10. Those of you who only want soup and salad can have it for $5. We really do have a good time at the din-ner, so please join us. The meeting portion of the evening begins at 7.

Get out and join your fellow mem-bers of the club this summer at a pa-rade, a car show, a cruise or on a tour. u

SUNSCREEN WASN’T NEEDED AT SHEPLERSThe B.P.O.C. ( Buick, Pontiac. Olds and Cadillac) Show and Shine at Sheplers went on as scheduled on Saturday, May 12th, but as things turned out nobody got sunburned. Fortunately, it was dry but the sun was not seen for most of the day. This has been a popular event for our club, since it is conveniently located, manageable in size, and the Rocky Mountain Olds Club is the host and does the work. We just show up with the Caddies. Dark skies didn’t stop a few of our members from displaying their vehicles. Joe Unrein was there with his enormous ’59 Cadillac Ambulance, Brad Bauer brought his ’63 Sedan DeVille, Michael Brittan had his ’78 Seville, Wayne Shmitka displayed his ’92 Allant, Don Herbel showed his, Don Herbel showed his, Don Herbel showed his ’58 Coupe DeVille, Dirk Biermann brought his ’72 Coupe DeVille and Ken Lenarcic brought his ’63 DeVille convertible. George Dameron brought two cars this year, his ’84 Seville and his yellow ’48 Buick convertible. Nancy Tucker didn’t bring a car but did bring herself. Paul Whitlock and Don Braden also attended. We even saw Tim Coy and Cynthia Rutledge (looking for but not finding John Serfling), and did not bring the ’63. John Washburn and Blaise Flaherty planned to attend but were apparently deterred by the weather or wine. There were 11 Cadillacs registered...9 from our club. Brad Bauer won 3rd Place for Best 4dr. with his ‘63 Sedan DeVille, new member, Don Herbel, won for Best Cadillac with his ‘58 Coupe DeVille, Joe Unrein won 1st Place Best Specialty Car with his ‘59 Cadillac Ambulance and Michael Brittan won 2nd Place for Best 4dr. with his ‘78 Seville Elegante. George Dameron won for Best Buick with his ‘48 Convertible. My apologies if I missed mentioning anyone. The organizers had their ceremony for awards a little earlier than planned. Undoubtedly, they were concerned that the threatening skies might cause a few folks to leave early and I’m sure a few did. I counted about fifty cars on display this year compared with eighty plus last year. Spectators were a little sparse as well, although those who attended seemed to enjoy themselves. If you haven’t attended this event before, put it on your list for next year. It’s a good way to while away a Saturday. u

The cars were Shining and ready to Show despite the

lack of Sun. Our many thanks to the Rocky Moun-

tain Oldsmobile andPontiac-Oakland Clubs.

Good weather prevailed and the annual Memorial Day Parade in downtown Denver went off without a hitch on Saturday, May 26. Volunteer drivers really started coming out of the woodwork in the last few days leading up to parade day and I ended up waving off a couple of folks at the last minute. That is something I was reluctant to do, but there have been times in the past when we have ended up having more cars than riders and things just didn’t “look right”. Additionally, the area where we form up is pretty congested and we usually get wedged in against other groups. I have heard feedback that the city has complained about too many cars from other car clubs at some parades, particularly St. Patrick’s Day. Maybe we can find a better way to determine the optimal number of vehicles next year. Thank you to the folks who volunteered but didn’t drive. I hope they will keep the August 11th Colorado Yellow Ribbon parade in mind. More information will follow on that event, which is new this year, and is in honor of returning military veterans.

We were drivers again this year for the Women Marines Association and the Gold Star Wives who are women who have lost a husband in service to our country. We had a good turnout from both groups. Six cars from our club participated, consisting of three closed-bodied cars and three convertibles. The Gold Star Wives ended up riding in gold colored cars, namely Bill Bowser’s ’74 Eldorado convertible and Tim Coy’s ’63 Sedan DeVille. Peter Luce led our part of the procession as he al-ways does in his maroon ’38 convertible sedan. Also driving were Brad Bauer (’59 flat top Sedan DeVille), John Evans (’59 six-window SDV) and Jeanne Tiffany and son in her ’73 red Eldorado convertible. Every car had at least one veteran rider. This year the organizers put the Women Marines and Gold Star Wives in succession, so we weren’t divided up as happened last year. The crowd was a little thin and the parade route was also a little short. Lack of publicity for this parade probably contributes to a low turnout. John Cullinan has spoken with one of the organizers about ways to generate some additional free publicity for the event. Those spectators who did attend did not seem disappointed.

Prior to the parade, which began at 10:00am, there was a wreath remembrance ceremony to honor fallen soldiers from WWI through Afghanistan. This took place at the Colorado Veterans Monument at 14th Avenue and Broadway. It is the real reason for the holiday.. u
