Opium
Opium War
Was fought between British East Indi company and the Qing Dynasty of China from 1839-1842
It began because Britain smuggled opium (an illegal drug) into China which defiance Chinas drug laws and erupted into warfare against China and Britain
China defeated Britain However the war officially ended with the signing
of the Treaty of Nanking which marked the end of the war.
Chaing kai- shek
Chiang kai –shek Took Sun-Yat Sen place as chairman of the National
military council of the Republic of china in 1925.Chiang took control of the Kuomintang.To end the Warlord era and unify China, Chiang led
national troops in the Northern Expedition.During the Civil war after the Japanese surrendered,
he attempted to eradicate the Chinese communist but failed, forcing his Kuomintang government to retreat to Taiwan.
He served as President of the Republic of China and Director- General of the Kuomintang until he died in 1925.
Boxer Rebellion
Boxer Rebellion Was a rebellion led by a group called the
Boxers in china in 1900.There goal was to defeat the Qing Dynasty
and air force all foreigners out of China.The British, French, Russian, Japanese and
America troops joined together to defeat the Boxers.
The defeated them leaving China in turmoil.
Sun Yat –Sen
Sun Yat - SenWas an ambitious leader that had long hoped
China would become a democracy.He founded the Chinese Nationalism party
which in 1911 toppled the Qing Dynasty.He was named the first president of China
but, for some politics reasons he gave it to Yuan Shigai in 1912.
Taiping RebellionBegan over peasants demanding equality for
women, the end of poverty, and the division of surplus harvest among the neediest
It began in 1850 and ended in 1864Took 20 million livesChinese military, with the help of other
nations finally crushed the last of the rebellion in 1868
