4. FIRST FEED BACK
AIPCN-PIANC – Marseille May 2013
FIRST FEED BACK
• A socially challenging project
Lock-keepers and technicians involved in the project sincethe first design steps and in the preliminary risk studies
 New jobs + interesting
A complete reorganization of the navigation activity
A very important training program (300 people)
• Manageable technical challenges
 Audio system development
Deployment rate in conjunction with the reorganization of the operational units
AIPCN-PIANC – Marseille May 2013
FIRST FEED BACK
• Action consistency, improved information exchanges
• Ongoing Improvement process:
- correcting first dysfunctions
- changing operators habits
- adapting operation rules
AIPCN-PIANC – Marseille May 2013
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
Next step: traffic management
Optimize travel time with a better management of the lockages
 Identify abnormal situations
 To alert and inform
AIPCN-PIANC – Marseille May 2013
Traffic management
 Where are the boats?
Where will they be in 15-30 minutes ?
How to organize and optimize lockages (order of arrival, hazardous material transportation rules, leisure boats)
TRACKING TOOLS
VHFcalls (difficult to precisely locate the calling boat), last recorded lockage and estimated transit time,
locks and river cameras (not a full coverage),
AIS deployed in 2013, real-time monitoring of boats position combined with tracking software
AIPCN-PIANC – Marseille May 2013
Gestion du trafic du Rhône
GTR Software
AIPCN-PIANC – Marseille May 2013
Areas of work- Cooperation
Develop exchanges of information with the surrounding systems (river and sea ports, others waterways),
 Simulation software to optimize lockages,
Integrate the different sytems and simplify
