The Revolution of Social MediaSocial Media has been and continues to change our society.
by taradsjung 9 months ago
These days, it is extremely difficult to find teenagers, young adults, or even older adults who do not use any social
media. It has become a necessity and a part of everyday life, changing norms and traditions. Social media went
from posting on another person’s Facebook page to recording daily or even hourly routines on Snapchat. It is not
just a mean of contacting one another, but now it’s a way to constantly update people with one’s regular activities
or even a way for some people to make profit. With constant improvements, additions, and changes, social media
in society is continuously growing and becoming more influential in everyday life.

Change in the Development of Relationships
With social media, people meet through Facebook, Instagram, etc. and become friends there. Then, they meet in
person. This is the same for dating. Many people meet through social media first. Communication at the dinner
table between families are minimized due to people constantly checking their social media sites.People are

finding that they can have strong emotional connections through social media because they are able to show
their best possible self. Social media also allows people to find and reconnect with long lost friends.

Social Media's Impact on Relationships | Psych Central
Human beings yearn for connection and belonging. Numerous studies have linked
social support to positive mental health. Additional studies have cited the negative
emotional impact of loneliness. Research has further revealed people with fewer
social relationships die earlier on average than those with more social relationships.
People do not get to know one another the traditional way anymore. The way they learn information about
another person has changed, and people no longer use traditional means of getting to know one another.
Because chatting on social media and other ways of contacting people allow them to stay connected at all times,
people no longer feel the need to use other ways to communicate such as sending postal mail.

Chapter 4: Social Media and Romantic Relationships
Many teens in relationships view social media as a place where they can feel more
connected with the daily contours of their significant other's life, share emotional
connections and let their significant other know they care - although these sites
can also lead to feelings of jealousy or uncertainty about the stability of one's
relationship.
Social media will continue to grow with newer and newer innovations for each platform, continuously changing
the way we communicate with one another. It will continue to become even more normal for people to meet or
even date through social media and record their entire relationships on it. Chatting through social media is
usually just an additional way to get to know someone after meeting them in person and developing interest as a
person. However, in the near future, I think social media and chatting will become the main and "best" way for
teens and young adults, in their opinions, to get to know one another and develop friendships and relationships.

Does Technology Ruin Relationships?
Change in Work
Companies now hire people after digging up information about them from the Web including their social media
accounts. Furthermore, the knowledge about social media is becoming a great plus in the workplace because
businesses now know that one of the best ways to reach a large audience is through social media. Therefore,
companies seriously have considerations regarding the type of people they need to hire to manage the social
media accounts because they are so powerful.

By: Emily Bennington When Ted Rubin (@tedrubin) touched down in Asheville, NC
after a particularly unpleasant flight with a carrier he rarely uses, he immediately
posted an update to his 54,000 Twitter followers. "Just landed...boy do I miss
@JetBlue." A few minutes later, a representative from Jet Blue responded to say thanks.
There is more emphasis these days on knowing how to use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media
platforms. There are even specific jobs for social media; many companies look for Social Media Interns, to
promote and advertise the company through social media. It is increasingly becoming a valuable skill and very
prominent in today's society.

Social media will play an even bigger part in becoming employed. Also, strong knowledge in the social media field
will be a huge plus or even a requirement for certain jobs to work in companies. Companies will value this skill.
Because social media is becoming more and more influential in today's society, the skills needed to manage a
company's social media account in a unique way will be one of the most influential ways of advertising and
promoting the company. I feel that social media will only continue to become more used and manipulated for
companies trying to advertise or show that they are different and special.
Change in the Culture
People are now always on their phones. It is considered an ordinary behavior and a trend to take pictures of food
before eating to upload on Instagram. People no longer dig into their meals as soon as it comes out. It is also
normal to be recording and documenting any small everyday event through platforms such as Twitter or
Snapchat. There are also features of social media that allow people to pay one another, and even check into
restaurants or places to allow people to know what they are doing and where they are. The culture has changed
in a way that people publicize everything they are doing, who they are with, what they are eating, who they are
sending money to, and even daily outfit-of-the-day updates. This has been named "oversharing" on social media.
All of these aspects lead to people constantly being on their phones.

Are You Oversharing On Social Media?
Posted: Life is full of potential addictions; you don't have to look too far to find
them. When teens consider the concept of addiction, they likely think about
cigarettes and substance abuse, but oversharing on social media doesn't always register as a cause for
concern.
People are always on their phones, and with so much that social media provides, many disruptions have occurred.
For example, people are always documenting what they do, so all their friends know their daily activities.
Therefore, there is less communication talking about each other's days. Less communication also disrupts the
natural body language or tone of voice used while communicating, especially because people are so used to just
typing or texting to express their emotions.

The use of social media will become much more prevalent that people will have almost no communication in
public places due to the constant checking of social media accounts. People will hang out with friends but
constantly go on their phones without saying much to each other, potentially harming these special relationships.
Change in Entertainment
Social media has everything regarding entertainment, including the newest releases from artists who personally
post about it and the current news which is posted by news outlets which have social media accounts. Social
media is a great way for artists and other celebrities to give teasers and previews of their upcoming work to hype
up their comeback even more. All news outlets also now have Twitter, Facebook, and some even Instagram
accounts, which are used to reach audiences that no longer watch television anymore.
People even find that social media is much more entertaining, as they can go on Facebook to find memes and
funny posts and YouTube to watch beauty, comedy, cooking, etc. videos. There are increasing amounts of people
who are using social media more and more for such entertainment.

To Wrap it Up...
Social media has become so big in recent years, that it is the first thing people check when they wake up in the
morning and the last thing they are on before they go to sleep at night. Whether it is relationships with regular

played a big part and will continue to do so in the future. All the social media platforms continue to come out
with new innovations to further be of use to everyone, and many times prove to be disruptive. It is becoming
something necessary and required to have to partake in life in this generation.
