Thoughts from Father Bill . . . . . . . . . Sunday after Sunday, we are drawn here to worship God, to listen to God’s word and to receive Christ in the Eucharist. Jesus reminds us in the Gospel that like all good things, the unconscious that draws us together each Sunday comes from the Father. As we celebrate together, let us thank God for this wonder-ful gift of faith, which animates our loves and lives to undertake Christ’s mission. Monday is he Feast of Edith Stein, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She was born in Poland to Jewish parents and was baptized on January 1, 1922. She died in a concentration camp in 1942. Tuesday is the Feast of Saint Lawrence, Dea-con. Said to been burned alive on the gridiron. Wednesday is the Feast of Saint Clare, foundress of the Poor Clares. She was the Abbess for 42 years. Rich in the practice of charity and loving care. Thursday is the Feast of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal, mother of six children. As a widow, she founded some 86 monasteries before her death. Friday is the Feast of Saints Pontian & Hippoly-tus. Hippolytus is the source of Eucharistic Prayer 2 Saturday is the Feast of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. He was born in Poland and was the Founder of Mili-tia of Mary Immaculate. He died, in place of a fa-ther with a family, in Auschwitz by legal injec-tion. If you are ever in Footedale, please make a stop at the Shrine of Maximilian Kolbe. I would like to thank all of you for your prayers as I recover from a mild stroke. Your patience is a won-derful blessing.

Peace, Father Bill

G L O R Y T O G O D During the pandemic, we were instructed to use a lot of music with refrains. Recently, your singing has been glorious! Starting last weekend, I printed the entire Gloria because we used to sing it as an Assembly. I will continue to insert it; so we can return to the engaging in our singing fully. I cannot wait to hear “Glory to God in the Highest” with the full Assembly!! Since your singing has been so good; I have deleted the Liturgy of the Eucharist for the upcoming weeks (Mass of Creation) and instead have printed the Gospel. This will remain until we change our Mass setting; then I shall insert the Liturgy of the Eucha-rist once again.

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

It is coming to that time when choirs will be in full force once again. We cannot wait ... and to you, the Assembly, we hope you cannot wait! Anyone is welcome to join an ensemble at any time, just call Sandy at 724-994-8872. Sharing God’s Holy Word through singing is very uplifting. When you sing the same text repeatedly for weeks upon end, by the time it truly happens within the context of the other Readings, you really understand the importance of the text you have been singing. It is more than praying twice. It is a blessing! The various music ministries beginning soon are:

Children’s choir (ages 7-12) Wednesdays 4:45-5:30 beginning Sept. 1st

St. Rose Intergenerational Choir Sundays 11:30 – 1:00 beginning August 29th

St. John Adult Choir Thursdays 6:30 beginning September 2nd

St. John’s Bell Choir Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 beginning September 1st

Cantors will continue to meet on an individual basis, as needed!

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + Speaking of Cantors: I want to publically acknowledge our team of cantors who have contin-ued to sing throughout the pandemic and not only sing, but constantly improve! They are working so hard to provide leadership and beauty to our Litur-gies and it takes hours for many of them to prepare the work that they share with you. They are devot-ed and appreciated. We are always looking for more cantors; because the Kingdom needs faithful servants. These devoted people need a break, too. If you are interested in singing ONE Mass a month, talk to Sandy who will rehearse with you and guide your learning. Thank you once again, good and faithful servants!

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + As we all look forward to Father Berkey’s Installation Masses, be reminded of the following special rehearsals: St. Rose: Sunday Aug. 15th at 11:30 and St. John Wednesday Aug. 18th. Even though you may not wish to sing all year long, any-one is invited to join for our special Liturgy, when Bishop Kulick will preside. It is the opportunity for us to welcome Father Berkey and Bishop Kulick to our Parishes and show our hospitality, as well as support. WE hope you will join us at St. Rose and St. John the Evangelist, for Tuesday, August 17th and Thursday August 19th, respectively. A former hand bell choir from Father Bill’s church and an Altoona Symphony member will join the St. Rose celebration and an IUP professor and St. John Bells will join together for the St. John celebration. Come enjoy the festive Liturgies!

need of those parishioners who are willing to give of their time and talent to Ministries within our Church. We are in need of ushers at the 5:00 Mass on Saturday evenings. We are also in need of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Cantors and Altar Servers. If you feel the Lord is calling you to give of your time and talent to St. John, please call the office on Mondays or Wednesdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm at 724-537-8909. F—Family

The family is the central unit and foundation of society (second Vatican Council). It usually consists of a father, mother and children. God created us in His image and likeness, His son was born into a family unit and was

raised by his earthly parents teaching him the traditions and values of the family. The family is the base unity of

all vocations.
