The Canadair Regional Jet, the 'CRJ'

The CRJ family are the most successful and accomplished solution to fill the gap between the business jet and the commercial airliner. In the stretched 900 variant, the CRJ can even compete directly with the smaller conventional airliners such as Boeing's ubiquitous 737, whilst maintaining a grace and style such airliners can only dream of. The CRJ is no slouch either. Powered by General Electric turbofans, the CRJ variants can deliver cruise altitudes in excess of 41,000ft, accommodate 90 passengers and traverse over 3,000 km at Mach 0.82

The CRJ trinity

This simulation for Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2004 and FSX includes not just one, but three aircraft variants. The CRJ 200, 700 and, for many, the most attractive of them all, the sleek 900.

A tour of the exterior reveals the excellence that flight simmers almost take for granted in a FeelThere development. The model is rich in animation: hydraulic suspension, flaps, slats, spoilerons, speed brakes, thrust reversers, detailed landing gear sequencing. Landing lights, passenger and cargo doors, operating airstairs and more.

Whichever version you select the quality model is clad in textures of equal excellence incorporating reflection, dynamic shine and realistic night lighting. It's a beautiful thing.

Flight Simulator X viewpoints help you appreciate this beauty when not obscured by the bustle of animated luggage trucks - wait a minute… that's the bag I lost in 1993!

In the 'office'

Not one to start conspiracy theories, have you ever wondered about those 'authentic' flight decks- is it possible that simulator developers have been making it up as they go along? How would most of us know?

Worry not with the Wilco/FeelThere CRJ! Authenticity is there before your eyes. This great value boxed edition includes actual flight deck video footage from Just Planes, including a very murky landing... a great reminder to us to maybe change from clear skies once in a while and really use those systems before us! Now where was that localizer again?

Those familiar with the Wilco/FeelThere airliners will have high expectations and will not be disappointed.

Electrical systems, new logic hydraulics and pneumatic systems are all simulated, together with automatic bleed air, air-conditioning and more. All 2D panels are photo-realistic and matched by a clear and beautifully rendered virtual cockpit

The panel features vector graphic (GDI+) technology to ensure smoothness, and is rich in features. The realistic Flight Management System (FMS) incorporates MSG, POS init, FPLN mode, DEP/ARR pages including SID and STAR, Index, Legs page including direct function, and altitude restriction input , VNAV, Radio Page, Perf page includes all modes. The MFD includes all available displays and MFD VNAV mode.

Shut one’s eyes a moment and simply listen: the real sound effects are outstanding.

Taking to the Sky

Like most aircraft take-off performance is improved with engines running… The CRJ simulator features new Flight Director logic for take-off, and new engine logic also. APU startup/shutdown sequences are fully simulated with all the corresponding EICAS messages.

The Firex monitor is a brand new system with one button operation and with typical attention to detail, FeelThere have included the fully working FADEC for engine management.

Once airborne, unexpected 'landings' are seldom popular and can affect an aircraft's warranty.

The very accurate autopilot control panel simulates almost every feature, which together with the Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) which includes multiple callouts, should ensure ensures none of the high resolution textures get scraped. The Anti-icing system will also avoid those frosty looks.

As a means of navigation, asking passengers if they recognize anything below is frowned upon by most carriers and an action for which there is no excuse in this CRJ simulation.

The Multifunction display ( MFD) includes NAV, Plan, Rose and Radio modes and even NAVDATA database compatibility to enjoy the very high quality AIRAC cycles from navdata.at.

Acronym and system overload? Then let us not forget this is an aeroplane first and foremost. Return your view to the windshield – and just enjoy the marvelous flight characteristics of the CRJ.

We are sure you will echo Avsim's review - the CRJ promises you one huge blast of fun!
