Big thanks to A-Plan Insurance – club sponsors

Win a British and Irish Lions Hoody! – Come and play the A-Plan Insurance passing challenge up by the clubhouse for a chance to win a terrific piece of stash. As well as the fun of the game, you can quote WRFC when chatting to the A-Plan guys for a free, no obligation review of your insurance. You never know, you might well save money! The club can earn some money too if you take out a policy with A-Plan Insurance.

Big thanks to the under 11s

Festivals take some organising and thanks need to go out to the Under 11s for running today’s event – especially JK (tournament director and U11 head coach), Sophie Castle and Katie Hubber (event organisers and U11 managers), Richard Castle (programme, sponsorship and U11 coach) and Caroline Fadipe (fixtures secretary and U11 mum).

Thank you for coming, I hope you enjoy the day, and I wish you and your team every success.

Best

Justin Pascoal-Reynolds Minis Chairman

A very warm welcome to the 2016 Wimbledon Minis rugby festival.

There’s been lots of rugby to enjoy since last year’s festival (once the World Cup finished that is!). Let’s hope our kids were inspired by the fast-running rugby we saw in the Olympic Sevens – what better example for the fun and inclusion the RFU’s new Age Grade Rugby regulations aim to foster.

Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship

Let’s use today’s festival to cement these fundamental elements of our game in our kids’ minds. England Rugby has a renewed focus on stamping out backchat so please brief your kids accordingly and stamp out any touchline nonsense so we adults set the kids the best example.

One of the benefits of being a growing club is that we can give more and more back to the rugby family. We are into our third year of running an Inclusive Rugby section for kids with SENs and are proud to be growing our girls section quickly. Girls rugby will be an ever-growing part of life at the club, especially as more and more schools are offering rugby now. With over 450 kids across minis and youth, Wimbledon RFC is a cracking place to play kids rugby.

As it is for adults! Our 1st XV have confirmed their place in the National Leagues finishing 8th in their first year and winning their first three games this season. The ladies XV is going from strength to strength too – whilst always looking for new players – Wednesdays at 7.30 if you’re keen.

Beyond rugby, we’re pleased to have been able to also launch a netball club. Two sessions run on Sundays – 9.30 for under 10s, 10.45 for older kids. Email [email protected] and [email protected] for details

Child protection Our Child protection officer – Sophie Castle (07970 212727) will be available all day at the festival and should be consulted if you have any concerns about adult or kids behaviour pitchside (or elsewhere).

Photography RFU guidelines recommend that clubs seek parental agreement that photographs may be taken of their kids – for personal memories and by clubs/county/RFU to promote this great sport. Wimbledon RFC has this process in place for its own kids. If you have any concerns about photography today please get in touch with Sophie.

Format The competition for each age group is split into two or more leagues of five teams. Each team will play three or four games. No finals; more time to enjoy the delights of the clubhouse once the rugby is done!

Team registration and briefing Please make sure you register your team by 09:30 at your age group control tent.

Required Information needed is: Team name, players’ names and RFU numbers, and dates of birth, lead coach’s name and referee’s name Gumshields must be worn by all players in age groups u9 and above.

Referees briefing The referees briefing will be at 09:45 by your age group control.

Food and drink at the Clubhouse Inside the clubhouse will be coffee, tea and hot chocolate plus beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. We’re BBQ-ing up bacon rolls, hamburgers and hot dogs as well. Plus there’s a tuck shop with sweets and drink for the kids; and a cake sale. We also have a coffee cart coming and our ice cream man will be serving too. Lots at the clubhouse enjoy!
