Arch’s Column

The wedding ceremony came to the point where the minister asked if anyone had anything to say concerning the union of the bride and groom. The moment of utter silence was broken when a beautiful young woman carrying a child stood up. She started walking slowly towards the minister. The congregation was aghast - you could almost hear a pin drop. The groom's jaw dropped as he stared at the approaching young woman and child. Chaos ensued. The bride threw the bouquet into the air and burst out crying. Then the groom's mother fainted. The best man and groomsman started giving each other looks and wondering how to save the situation. The minister asked the woman, ‘Can you tell us why you came forward? What do you have to say?’ There was absolute silence in the church. The woman replied, ‘We can't hear you in the back.’ And that illustrates what happens when people are considered guilty until proven innocent!

THINKING CAPS ON …

Two fathers took their sons fishing. Each man and son caught one fish, but when they returned to camp there were only three fish. How could this be? (None of the fish were eaten, lost, or thrown back.)

Jim’s Jests More common misconceptions about food and exercise...

Q1: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way.

Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q2: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy? Hello cocoa beans! Another vegetable! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q3: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Laugh with Lorrene

Yesterday I had an appointment to see the urologist for a prostate exam. I was a bit on edge because all my friends have gone under the knife. The waiting room was filled with patients. The receptionist was a large unfriendly woman who looked like a Sumo wrestler. I gave her my name and, in a very LOUD voice, she said, ‘You want to see the doctor about impotence, right?’ All the patients in the waiting room snapped their heads around to look at me, a now very embarrassed man. But I recovered quickly and in an equally loud voice replied, ‘No, I’ve come to inquire about a sex change operation, but I don’t want the same doctor that did yours.’ The room erupted in applause! Moral: Don’t mess with old retired guys.
