WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?
• Leadership definition
– Defined as the capacity to influence and motivate people, by means of personal attributes and behaviours, to achieve a common goal.

• If a mistake is made, effective Leaders will use it as an opportunity to learn from, and to continually seek improvement to stop it from happening again.

• We need greater collaboration going forward.
• We are stronger when we work together.
• We must learn from each others incidents and accidents and share good practice.

• We need to first understand the factors that influence behaviour by listening to people.
• Collaborative working is easier when you understand individuals’ goals, behaviours and culture.
• Then we need to encourage behaviours which are aligned to common goals.

• Let’s listen to our staff on the frontline - they know what the problems are.
• Look at what’s going on but remember to also listen more and talk less.
• Encourage them to be part of the solution.
• Understand and act on their suggestions.
• Continually improve, keep asking, looking, listening and involving.

• To understand the challenges and risks they encounter.
• To ensure that things are as they should be and still make sense.
