THE GRAPEVINE President’s Message:

So Excited to Welcome FFCCHA Team (Our Voyage continues!)

I would like to welcome all new Providers and new leaders on the Executive committee, to the FFCCHA team. Your voyage to becoming a new leader is about to begin. Now that you have taken the steps to join us on this journey, reach out and connect with a new member or two. My heart is filled with excitement when I see you climb aboard this voyage. Together we can cele-brate with a loud voice that “FFCCHA has grown new members and leaders!” We must continue to move forward with the FFCCHA mission: to rep-resent a united voice on behalf of all children to promote and encourage quality professional family child care through education, legislation, advocacy, mentoring, caring and love. As we continue to move to another level of this voyage, let’s challenge our team to network. How can we do that? Reach out to new providers and hold their hand tightly, let them know and feel the love that we share for Professional Family Child Care Providers. Encourage them to join the FFCCHA voyage of the future of new leaders. I want to share food for thought with this quote: “True leadership lies in guiding others to success, in ensuring that everyone is performing at their best, doing the work they are pledged to do and doing it well.” —Bill Owens Go FFCCHA Team!

Lois

Kendrick

Lois Kendrick has been happily married for 36 years to her awesome husband Al, and together they are the proud parents of four adult children aged 35, 32, 29, and 26. They are also the proud grandparents to 11 grandchildren, 7months old to 15 years old. Their family values and morals have been built upon God’s word following a great scripture Joshua 24:15. Lois started her FCC program when her granddaughter was born at 2lbs/4ozs. The baby needed a quality childcare due to medical issues, and Lois was not able to find one in her community. Through prayer and guidance she switched professions to accommodate a need at that precious moment and has never looked back nor regretted it. Lois has been licensed since July 2002 as a Large Family/NAFCC Accredited/Gold Seal provider. She provides service for infants, toddlers, VPK, school readiness, and after school children. She provides one-on-one with parents who seek additional help with their children. She once had a father with many concerns with his younger son not understanding basic knowledge with delay issues, so she asked the father to give her six months to work with him and through closed development assessments, his son progressed greatly. He graduated from VPK class. The father stopped by her home to share (while tears flowed down his cheeks), that his son excelled with high grade scores in public school and has been on the “A” honor roll ever since. When the school asked the father which center the son had attended, he answered that he went to Kendrick Family Childcare/Preschool with Mrs. Kendrick as his teacher, and that is why his son was where he is now. As a professional quality provider Lois will continue to strive towards the next professional level by empowering the families she serves, extension of family members, communities, agencies, networking with other FCCH Providers while traveling on this longevity journey. Lois currently serves as FFCCHA Vice-President, Membership Development, and participates on the Conference Team. She volun-teers and presents at Conferences, is an EC Board Member, and attends quarterly professional development meetings. She partici-pates in ELC STARS Rating performance and QUEST. Lois has received her BS in Business Management, AS Early Childhood Ed., AS in Office Administration, Diploma in Early Childhood Management, Advance Director’s Credentials, NAFCC T-T-T Instructor, NAFCC Observer Instructor, NAFCC Accredited Provider, Mentor Instructor, and through Pathfinder: Association Dev. Instructor, Second Helping Instructor, and Master Provider Level IV In-structor. Lois enjoys a quiet place to meditate, listening to music, reading/studying God’s word, and enjoying her family. She attends and par-ticipates in church activities weekly.

Congratulations to Mercedes Pridgen!! Chapter Rep of the Quarter

of the North Florida FCC Association in Area 5 (Liberty, Gadsen, Leon, Taylor, Wakulla, Jefferson and

Madison Counties)

Welcome to new Chapter Reps: Sylvia Castillo of HCCPA of NE Hillsborough County and Kelly Patter-son of South Florida HCCA.

FFCCHA’s mission is to represent a united voice on behalf of all children to promote and encourage quality professional family childcare through educa-tion, legislation, advocacy, mentoring, care and love. As you continue to represent your chapter, keep our mission in mind by encouraging providers in your chapter to attend meetings and network. There are many opportunities for partnerships to develop and grow. Providers can provide helpful insights and share information to support their development.

As a chapter rep, you are the key to growth within your chapter. Plan to attend FFCCHA’s quar-terly meeting October 28th 2017!

Gracias!

Parent Partners: Taking Time to Commit.

Have you thought of making a commitment to your child lately? This is a lot like making a promise to someone without telling them. So instead of saying, “Yes, I will take you to the park,” after your child begs you for hours, you simply put that activity on your schedule in advance of any anxiety of the child.

You already know you have made a commitment to take care of the financial needs and physical needs of your child, so the next step is the emotional connection each child needs. It is simply the small things in life that each child will remember as she matures, the routines that you as a parent or caregiver have established, and are willing to adhere to whether you feel like it or not.

Some commitments are large like saving for a college fund and others are small like taking your child to the park each Sat-urday. Each time you make a commitment to your child you are really making that promise to yourself as well. In the long run it will be you as the parent or caregiver who will have the satisfac-tion of a promise kept.
