DISCUSSION OF PAPERS IN THE QUAI~TE2Zr JOU2NAL
The Council announces tha t the pages of the Quarter/?/ Journal are open to the discussion of papers which hava already appeared in the J o u r n a l
While every Fellow may contribute to these discussions, they are intended primari ly for the benefit of Fellows (and particularly those resident overseas) who are unable to at- tend the meetings of the Society, and to afford such Fellows a closer contact with the Society's activities. Fellows are requested to comply with the following regulations when submitt ing their contributions to these discussions, since it will not be possible for the Secretaries to enter into correspond- ence about them or to submit proofs to the contributors.
a. Notice will be given in each par t of the Jou~ml (nor- mally below the table of contents on the back page of the cover) of the latest date on which discussion of papers in tha t par t can be accepted for consideration. The date selected will be such t ha t all overseas Fellows will have reasonable t ime to contribute to the discussion.
b. Contributions to these discussions should not as a rule exceed 250 words (half a page of the Journal), and they will be subject to editing by the Secretaries. They should be typewrit ten, and the t i t le of the paper dis- cussed, and the name of its author, appear plainly a t the top of the typescript .
c. Discussion of the papers published in preceding volumes will normally appear in par t 2 of each volume.
d. Participation in the discussion a t a meeting, and the publication of his remarks in the Abstracts of Proceed- ings, will not preclude a Fellow from making a contri- bution to the subsequent Journal discussion.
The Council desires, in view of the present financial stringency and of the desirability of publishing in the Quarterly Journal all suitable papers with the least possible delay and at the lowest possible cost, to draw the attention of Fellows and other authors of papers to the necessity of reducing manuscripts and illustra- tions to the minimum, consistent with clear presentation of the subject-matter. Authors who have in view the submission of papers to the Society should apply for the printed ' Instructions to Authors ' which the Secretaries will forward, with such other information as may be necessary.
The Library at the Apar tments of the Society is open on week- days from 10 o'clock until 5 o'clock (Saturdays, 10 o'clock until 1 o'clock).
