“The QC Plan- Your Turn” Example: If a rectangle has an area of 40 square yards, and a length of 8 yards, how many feet wide is the rectangle?

Step I: In order to find how many feet wide a rectangle with an area of 40 square yards and a length of 8 yards is, I would use the formula:

L x W = A, then substitute 40 for A and 8 for L. Then I would convert the answer to feet by multiplying by 3.

Step II: 8 x W = 40 (Divide both sides by 8) W = 5 (yards, not feet) 5 x 3 = 15 feet

Step III: The answer is 15 feet.
