The purpose of the Prairie Creek Redwoods Half Marathon & 5k Run/Walk is to raise funds for Redwood Parks Conservancy (RPC), a local nonprofit organization that supports educational, interpretive and resource restoration activities and oversees visitor centers in eight locations throughout Redwood National and State Parks. All proceeds from the run will benefit parks and public lands on California’s far north coast. Directions from Eureka (from the south): Take Highway 101 N., then Newton B. Drury Parkway (exit #753). Drive north on the parkway for two miles to park headquarters. Directions from Crescent City (from the north): Take101 S. The first sign you see for Newton B. Drury Parkway is the north entrance (exit #765); THIS EXIT WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE RUN. Continue south on 101 for seven miles then exit onto Newton B. Drury Parkway’s south entrance (exit #753). Drive north on the Parkway two miles to park headquarters.

All proceeds will benefit Redwood Parks Conservancy (RPC), the official nonprofit to Redwood National & State Parks. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park was established in 1923 to provide a sanctuary of ancient redwood forest for enjoyment by future generations. Today this park, in partnership with Redwood National Park and RPC, preserves and protects 12,000 acres of old-growth redwood forest.

When: Saturday September 17, 2016, 9:00 a.m. Check in starts at 7:30 a.m.

Race Location: Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, located five miles north of the town of Orick, CA (see “Location & Directions” on back cover)

Course: Both races will begin and end on Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway at the intersection with the visitor center entrance road.

The Half Marathon course will be on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway for nine miles with the final four miles on the Prairie Creek Trail and will end at the visitor center.

The 5k Run/Walk course will be on the Elk Prairie Trail with the final stretch on the entrance road to Elk Prairie Campground.

Features: T-shirt, refreshments, timing, aid stations, healthy eats and awards.

Awards Ceremony (following end of each race): The three overall male & female finishers in each run will receive a medal. The first man & woman in each age group will receive a ribbon.

Entry Deadline: By or before August 29, 2016

Cost: $50 for Half Marathon and $25 for 5k Run/Walk

Restrictions: Dogs are not allowed on park trails

Field Limitation: The field is limited to a combined total of 400 runners or 200 per event on a first come, first served basis.
