2 July 2004 l RMR Porsche

PPRESIDENTRESIDENTSS MMESSAGEESSAGEEvery once in a while I hear commentsabout how it seems that the same peopleare always on the Board. Sometimes itseems like that to me too. I have been onthe Board for 5 years and will be for atleast one more. It has been suggested thatI describe the nomination process for Clubofficers and provide some insight into whatis required.

RMR is governed by a Constitution andBy-Laws. These provide details on howthe Board is to be structured. There areprescribed positions of President, 1st VicePresident, 2nd Vice-President, Treasurer,Secretary, Newsletter Editor, MembershipChairman, and Past President. All terms arelimited to 2 years with the exception ofNewsletter Editor and MembershipChairman. The President appoints peopleto chair a number of committees that reportto the board and aid tremendously in therunning of the club.

Each year a Nominating committee isappointed by the Board to select potentialcandidates for the following year. TheNominating committee is comprised of thePresident, the immediate Past President andone or more other active members. Wehave traditionally appointed two memberswho are not presently on the Board. Thenominating committee reports their sug-gested candidates at the October member-ship meeting and announces them in theOctober Newsletter. Additional nomina-tions may be made at the November mem-bership meeting. If there are no additionalnominations, a motion will be made to con-firm the election of the nominated candi-dates at the November meeting and no fur-ther election is required. The candidatesare then installed at the December annualmeeting which is our December holidayparty. If additional nominations are

received at the November meeting, an elec-tion is held and ballots are distributed atleast 14 days before the annual meeting. An election committee is formed and bal-lots must be received two days before theannual meeting. The committee reports theresults of the election at the annual meet-ing.

Candidates for Board positions must beable to attend Board meetings once amonth and be available, within reason, torespond to matters concerning the Club atother times. Candidates must have beeninvolved with the Club's activities for asufficient time to know what we do and, perhaps more importantly, what we havedone and why. Involvement and atten-dance at Club meetings and events is vital.Positions such as Newsletter Editor andTreasurer also require expertise in the areaof their responsibilities. We try to makethe Board representative of the membershipand welcome "new blood." This yearDavid Speights has been new in the posi-tion as Secretary and he has been a veryvaluable Board member. During mytenure on the Board I have begun to appre-ciate the benefits of continuity and length

of service. It is vital to have someone whoremembers what we have to do each yearand what we did in the past when confront-ed with a recurring issue. One of the rea-sons I am only going to serve as yourPresident for one year is to facilitate theaddition of new members and expedite theprogression of the Vice Presidents.

It has become traditional to ask Boardmembers if they want to become part of theprogression through the Vice Presidentpositions and serve as President. This cantake from 4-6 years. During this time peo-ple in those positions are responsible foroverseeing the organization of events, deal-ing with the national organization on issuesof insurance and rule changes, and keepingan eye on the financial health and goals ofthe region.

We have many standing committees whichare a great place to start to be moreinvolved and to develop experience in whatthe Club needs to do to put on events andcontinue to function. Also, being an eventchair person or assisting at the event aregreat ways to learn what goes on and toshow the involvement, commitment andexperience the Nominating Committeelooks for in potential candidates for Boardpositions.

This is a totally volunteer organization andthere is lots of room for anyone who wantsto help. If you or someone you know areinterested in serving on the board, or help-ing in another capacity, contact me byphone or email or call Kathy Fricke 303-499-6540. I hope to see you at our nextevents.

14 July 2004 l RMR Porsche

By: Lynn Scott

It's rather hard to believe that this specialevent has been such a success for all theseyears: 21!!! The gate receipts are gettingbigger each year so it's plain to see that thepublic is really becoming more aware ofwhat a fine show this is and they surelydon't want to miss it.

This year's car show was spectacularthanks to all of you who brought your fineautomobiles out for another wonderful dayunder the sun. It was a little warm thisyear --- but no rain, hail, wind, or torna-does, and for your efforts you are owed agreat debt of gratitude. The Children'sProgram of Cerebral Palsy of Colorado isthe beneficiary of our dedication and, because they can't always be there to say it,--- THANK YOU to each and every one ofyou. That's saying a lot of "thank you's",as there were over 260 cars this yearwhich, and as you know, represents hoursand hours of preparation.

The 2004 Car Show raised over $ 47,000gross, and $ 38,000 net for the children'sprogram. Let us never forget that we aregiving back to the community what hasbeen so generously bestowed upon each ofus. We should all be very pleased that wewere able to contribute so much for thesevery special children. What could be moreworthy than spending time outside on abeautiful day, appreciating fine automobiles

of every year and type, and commensurat-ing with friends of like minds, all the whilehelping those little ones? Well - not much!So please don't get tired of the applause -you deserve it!

The Car Show Committee always worksvery hard to have things run as smoothly aspossible. This year was no exception. Thenew Chairs were Jim and Debbie Waltersand they did a fabulous job. Thanks toboth of you for a job well done. Alongwith Deb and Jim, the committee is com-prised of 11 various local car club repre-sentatives and three staff members of CP ofColorado, in particular, Sandy Mariani - aspecial, special thank you. You madeeveryone on the committee appreciate youso much for all your hard work and tremen-dous skills. The committee members are:Chairpersons, Jim and Debbie Walters, again a wonderful job; CorporateSponsorship was comprised of Phil Doty,Bob Lewis and Mike Norris who throughtheir fine efforts raised $ 23,420, Jerryand Mary Ellen Hoffman who did atremendous job setting up the site, which isalways a difficult job, and organized thefood services - good job you two; StimKennedy who was responsible for the greatarray of cars for the Special InterestDisplay, the "Founder's Favorites," whichare always a crowd pleaser; and to TomScott for his concern for this special eventand his ever-watchful eye over everythingincluding scoring and awards. Again this

year, Rex Lindgren provided the sound sys-tem and manned the mike for announce-ments throughout the day. And a specialthanks to Jim Everson, Andy Forberg andthe RMR Board of Directors for their sup-port.

Believe me, this show could not go onwithout all of the special and hard workingvolunteers to include the 62 RMR entrants, the many RMR volunteers, and especiallythe RMR judges, without whom this eventcould not function. And speaking of judges- you all deserve a special hand becausefirst of all you all look so "professional" inyour white coats - but also because thisyear it was particularly hot. You did thejudging in record time and it was greatlyappreciated. It is because of all of the finevolunteers and because of YOU and yourfine automobile that draws the crowds thatmakes this event as special as it is and hasbeen for the past 21 years. So A VERY,VERY HEARTFELT THANK YOU TOEVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TOTHE SUCCESS OF THIS VERY SPE-CIAL EVENT!

Congratulations to all of the entrantsbecause just contributing your time andeffort makes every one of you a winner.

The Porsche Owner's and Judges' choicefor their favorite Porsche was Dave Petittiwith his 1993 968 Coupe. Congratulations!

The Spring Rally started out in Castle Rock on what looked like abeautiful day. Little did the teams know what was in store forthem. First, there was nice top down driving. Then one group ofcheck point workers got lost. (Now we know why they workedinstead of driving the rally.) After lunch the rally continued into adriving blizzard. Who remembered to bring their snow tires? Thesigns were covered with snow. And, trying to drive the called forspeed became impossible. Most everyone eventually found theirway to Parker and a chance to warm up with some food and spirits.

Because of problems with the weather and some of the checkpoints, it was decided not to score the rally and to award all of theparticipants and workers one challenge series participation point. Thanks, to all whole helped set up the rally and those who enduredit.
