Dear Members,

The month of October was full of events and celebrations at the club.

The torrential rains did not dampen our spirits, and all programs were

well attended by members and guests.

The Navratri Dandya Nite on the 11th of October was well attended

in spite of heavy rains.

The XIV Ahmed Hussian Memorial Snooker Tournament 2008 was a

success with more than 40 participants.

The 60s and 70s music Bar Nite on the 17th of October saw a full

house at the I Bar.

The renovated cards room was re opened on the 18th of October.

The annual Diwali fire works display on the 25th of October was a

resounding success followed by a music and dosa mela which was a

new feature well appreciated by members and guests.

The Diwali Bumper Tambola on the 29th of October brought in many

participants and cash prizes of one lakh were distributed.

The month of November promises to be just as exciting if not more with

events such as a Disco Nite on the 1st, Childrens Day on the 14th

and 15th, Bar Nite and a food festival on the 29th and a Movie.

Special thanks goes out to all the organizers and employees whose

planning and work gives us so much joy at these events.

The XIV Ahmed Hussain Memorial Handicap Snooker

Tournament 2008 concluded on 12-Oct-2008 and

was a huge successvery well participated,

organized and conducted.

Mr. Ranjith Jacob, President of our club inaugurated

the much awaited tournament on 04-Oct-2008.

There were 42 participants in all. After a marathon

39 rounds of 3-frame initial stage matches, the top 3

players came out to play each other in the 5-frame

round-robin semi-final.

Unlike last year, for most part of the tournament, old

youngsters dominated the scene! The tournament

was exciting and saw some superb display of

snooker by many players in all their matches.

R. Siva and Eswaran Annamalai won the semi-finals

and met in the exciting 7-frame final match. R. Siva

won the tournament and walked away with the

Trophy and a fat purse.

Shivam Poddar, the last year champion, entertained

every one with his 37 break, which was the highest

in the tournament. The presentation party was

attended by our President, Vice President, Honorary

Secretary,

Treasurer, MIC and Mr. J. Sampath Kumar, the Tourna-

ment Chairman.

After the welcome address by Mr. R. Ravi, a minute

silence was observed in memory of Mr. Ahmed

Hussain. Mr. Pillai recalled his association with

Mr. Ahmed Hussain. After the prize distribution,

Mr. Sampath Kumar proposed a vote of thanks. The

cocktail dinner thereafter was such a memorable

one that everyone around has already started

looking forward to the next edition in 2009!

The hit Hindi movie, Singh is King starring Akshay

Kumar & Katrina Kaif was screened on 4th October

at 7.30 pm which was viewed by a large number of

our Members.

On 18th October, the Tamil hit movie, Kuselan

starring superstar Rajnikanth was screened,

courtesy our very own G.P. Vijaykumar who is also

the producer of the film. The entertainment

committee thanks him for the same.

Our club celebrated Navratri on 11th oct with Dandiya

Rass with live music by Raag Milan which kept our

members foot tapping and playing Dandiya. The

intermittent rains did not dampen the spirits of our

members who were dancing until midnight. Most of the

members were well attired for the occasion and an array

of prizes. were given. The evening was well compered by

our Chirag Batavia who was very comfortable amidst his

clan. The entertainment committee thanks its main

sponsor, Mr. Ashwin Kamdar of Prince Foundation. Thanks

to The Art Warehouse and Frizz Unisex Salon for

contribution of prizes.

Down memory lane ,went the members and guests at

the I bar on 17th of November,as they listened and got

intoxicated by the live music of Shafi and his troupe ,a

generation which went nostalgic as one by one Hindi

and Tamil film hits of the 60s and 70s rolled out .

The poster invitation was aptly worded to excite ones

imagination,barbar dekho, bar bar piyo, bar bar suno

and so on. Once the momentum picked up, the entire

bar was on the dance floor, dancing away to glory.

this event.

The rain Gods, as usual, were very kind

to us which enabled the Diwali

celebrations to be enjoyed by

everyone. The Club wore a festive look

for the week with beautiful

illumination of lights and on October

25th, we had a wonderful fireworks

display which was very different from

yesteryears. This was followed by

Ghazals with Iqbals melodious voice

and Members were asking for more

when finally it had to be stopped at

midnight.

The rescheduled Akshaya Homes sponsored Diwali Super Bumper Tambola on 29th October was a

huge success. The atmosphere looked festive, with the entire Fairlawn area lit up beautifully.

Four games of tambola were played and cash dividends of Rs.1.00 lac were distributed.

Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, did smile at many regular players who went home happily. As

usual the tambola sub committee M/s. Ramakrishnan, Prem Kinger, Saravanan and Tarun Agarwal

played their rolls for the success of the tambola.

Chat Buffet with 12 items including three

sweets were served on the Dandia Nite on

11th October, for Rs 65/- per head.

Despite rain the chat counter was packed

and well appreciated.

Nearly 400 members attended the Dosa

Mela which was celebrated on 25th

October, the Diwali Eve. 17 varieties of

unlimited Dosas with 12 side dishes were

offered at Rs 65/- per head, besides chicken

and mutton curry was made available on

order.

The Tennis Court Corridor was well lit and

decorated, giving a festive ambience which

was a treat to the eyes and the varieties of

Dosas treat to the palette. The staff of club

kitchen and the supervisors and bearers of

catering deserve full praise for the success

of the mela.

Look forward for Thai & Vietnamese Food

Festival on Saturday the 22nd November,

2008 and set aside your time for the great

cuisine.

The Parking stickers for the Members cars have been sent along with the July 2008 issue

of the news magazine.

Members are requested to ensure that the stickers are affixed to their cars to facilitate

parking within the Club. Cars without the stickers may be denied parking within the club

premises.

Members who have misplaced the Parking stickers are requested to write to the Club and

obtain fresh Car Parking Stickers.

Effective 01 Nov 08, Cars without Car Parking Stickers may be

Denied parking within the Club premises.

Valet parking is also available.

On Club nights and high density party nights, driver-driven cars will have to be parked at

Ethiraj College and not within the Club Premises to provide parking for member-driven

cars at the club Premises.

Parallel parking, blocking the drive way at the entrance, is strictly prohibited.

Members are requested to ensure that their drivers are properly

instructed and to co-operate with the Security personnel.
