The Present Continuous Tense

The Present Continuous tense se tvori od prezenta pomoćnog glagola 'to be' koji glasi am/is/are + glavni glagol s nastavkom –ing (present participle).

UPITNI I UPITNO NIJEČNI OBLIK

1.) The Present Continuous Tense koristimo za izražavanje radnje koja je u tijeku u trenutku govorenja.

“We are sitting in the classroom.” Uz ovo glagolsko vrijeme se koriste priložne

oznake vremena: now, at this moment i at present.

2.) Ovo glagolsko vrijeme se koristi za izražavanje radnje koja je u tijeku ‘oko sada’.“I am reading a book about astronomy.”“I usually work in the galley, but today I am working in the saloon.”

3.) The Present Continuous Tense se također koristi kada govorimo o dogovorima i planovima za blisku budućnost.

“He is dining with the master this evening.” “This ship is sailing to New York tomorrow”

4.) Ovo vrijeme koristimo s always i constantly umjesto Present Simple za radnje čija učestalost živcira govornika ili mu se čini nerazumnom. Na ovaj način izražavamo osobni stav.“Tom is always losing his keys.”“The first mate is constantly complaining.”

Glakoli kojima izražavamo stanje, a ne radnju koriste se u simple obliku . Tim glagolima izražavamo:1.) Mišljenje:

believe, think, understand, suppose, expect, agree, doubt, know, remember, forget, mean, imagine, realize,, prefer...

2.) Osjećaje: like, love, hate, care, hope, wish, want,

admit...

3.) Posjedovanje i stanje: belong, own, have, possess, contain, cost,

notice, seem, appear, need, depend on, weight, come from, resemble...

4.) Glagoli koji su vezani uz osjetila: see, hear, taste, smell, feel. Kada je subjekt u rečenici osoba često uz

njih koristimo modalni glagol can.“Can you see that cargo liner?”“I can hear the ship’s bell.”

Neki od spomenutih glagola se koriste u continuous obliku ali tada izražavaju radnju, a ne stanje.I think you are right. (mišljenje) We are thinking of buying a car. (mentalna

aktivnost)He has a lot of money. (posjedovanje) He is having a bath. (aktivnost)I see what you mean. (razumijeti) Are you seeing Nigel tomorrow? (aktivnost)The soup tastes awful. (stanje) I am tasting the soup to see if it needs salt.
