The Prayer Life of Jesus
Luke 11:1
Jesus Prayed…
• Before Making a Major Decision (Luke 6:12-13)– Jer. 10:23; Prov. 3:5-6—We are
inadequate to guide ourselves, we need God’s guidance.
– James 1:5—We are told to pray for wisdom.
–1 Kings 3:7-13—Solomon requested wisdom from the Lord and was richly blessed.
Jesus Prayed…
• In Time of Suffering (Matt. 26:37-39)– James 5:13—James tells us that
prayer needs to be our first reaction in times of suffering.
– Is. 40:28-31—The LORD gives strength to those that are weary.
–1 Sam. 30:1-8; Ps. 18:6—David prayed to the Lord for strength in times of distress.
Jesus Prayed…
• In Time of Temptation (Matt. 4:1-2)–Matt. 26:41; Luke 11:4—Jesus
taught His disciples to pray for help during temptation.
–Eph. 6:10-18—We need God’s strength to overcome temptation.
–1 Cor. 10:13; 2 Pet. 2:9—The Lord is able to deliver us from temptation.
Jesus Prayed…
• When He was Thankful (John 6:11; 11:41)–Luke 17:11-19—God expects us
to express our thankfulness to Him.
–1 Thess. 5:17-18—It is God’s will that we should give thanks in all things.
–Col. 4:2—We are to be vigilant in prayer with thanksgiving.
Jesus Prayed…
• When Others Needed Prayers (Luke 22:31-32; John 17:9-11,20-21)– James 5:16—James tells us to
pray for one another.–Acts 12:5—The Church was in
constant prayer for Peter.–Phil. 1:3-4; Col. 1:9; 2 Thess.
1:11—Paul was always praying for others.
Jesus Prayed…
• At All Times–Mark 1:35—In the morning–Matt. 14:23—In the evening–Luke 5:15-16—And every time
in between–1 Thess. 5:17—We are
commanded to pray without ceasing.
