Pontiac Tech DaySunday August 14

Larry Davis organized the tech day for members and nonmembers to get together and learn more about the history, restoration and other questions Pontiac owners may have. It was held at Plaza GMC-Buick in Omaha. There were several Pontiacs that showed up that we had never seen before. Members helped with problems and questions they had.

President’s Notes

Hello Nebraskaland!Summer is now winding down and we do have some events and car shows behind us.Pontiac Nationals in Bettendorf, Iowa was very well represented by both POA and Nebraskaland members. The downside of our week was driving in a rainstorm, a case of poison ivy, Gus Frics' dead battery, leaving Chuck Merica behind, going the wrong way on a One Way, poor food at the host hotel and those who participated in Road Warriors feeling a little pushed aside. The highlights of our week included a beautiful setting by the Mississippi River, finding new places to eat, some fun activities planned by the local POCI, good companionship among car members, a great turnout at the Nebraskaland meeting and the members who did have judged cars, all placed. Next year, to Texas.Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals with races and swap meet, in Norwalk, Ohio, were the first of August. The Mathes', the Schwanz', Monty Hopkins and the Rappls' all headed out there to swap. Our long weekend was uneventful, no major injuries, no flat tires. We did eat good food, had some laughs, checked out the Notre Dame campus, made some money and talked with interesting people.More recently was our Show and Shine at Restore a Muscle Car. Our registration was down, both among members and others. There was a pretty good flow of spectators and they did seem to come in Pontiacs, but they didn't register. It was good weather and people were generous to the Lincoln Food Bank. We owe thanks to Dave Hall for letting us hold our show there and to Brad Pfeiffer for his music and sound system. Our next meeting in October will be in Hooper, Nebraska, at the home of new members Bruce and Ann Skidmore. Claudia has already sent out a flyer with all the information. Of course, we'll have some good food and we encourage POA members to join us!Tom

Secretary Notesby Mary Schwanz

The last meeting for Nebraskaland was held July 14 at the Isle Casino in Bettendorf while the POCI National Convention was going on. President Tom Rappl brought the meeting together and was happy to see such a good turnout. Everyone said they were having fun and nice to see everyone. He reminded people to sign in at the chapter book at the registration room as the club receives credit for how many of us showed up. He welcomed Kevin & Mary O’Rourke who we hadn’t seen for a while. Our last meeting was at Bill Walkinshaw’s shop and, of course, good food and company was had by all.

One thing coming up was the Pontiac tech day which will be held at Plaza Buick & GMC at 120th and I in Omaha on August 14. He would like as many people to come as possible to answer questions, etc., for people who stop by or want help with their Pontiac problems. There is a overhang in the parking lot for some of the cars. Our show and Shine is coming up, August 21. Don’t forget to bring food for the food bank. Mike and Toni Chamberlin donated jackets for the raffle.

The next topic was a September or October meeting. One suggestion was the classic car collection in Kearney, a picnic at the new members the Skidmores near Hooper and also at Weston a general store with antiques, etc., an original mercantile has opened - we could cruise to that and then east in Wahoo. Also, Alan & Barbara Fanning offered their household as well as Bill & Mary Schwanz. IT was voted that we go to the Skidmores and Chuck Merica will arrange things there deciding on hamburgers or a pot luck. The Omaha group could cruise from Don Carmelo’s in Elkhorn at 11 a.m., and cruise to Hooper. Hillis also brought up that a group of us are going to Norwalk and anyone that has things they want to sell should bring it to his house, priced and ready to go. They are leaving August 4.

Claudia talked about having five new members. All have Pontiacs and will add a lot to our club. It was decided to eat Italian that night so Hillis moved to close the meeting and Chuck second it.

Dues for 2017 are due on January 1, 2017

OTHER NEWSMembers Diane Rappl and Toni Chamberlin recently had surgery.

Steve Kissinger lost his father this past week.
