Daniel is focused on leadership and management development training in the energy sector on the African continent, where he works with senior management teams to develop specific strategies to deal with skills transfer, business forecasting and the importance of a green energy and environmental focus.

Daniel has been a speaker on African strategy at several conferences and events. Recent workshops were presented at the 4th Annual African Trade Conference, Government of Ras Al Khaimah African road show, Agribusiness Development Conference as well as the Angola Industry Forum, where he acted as knowledge partner to the event (this event brought government and business together in dialogue sessions on specific industry topics).

Prior to that, Daniel was a consultant for corporate markets at the ABSA Corporate and Merchant Bank and his expertise has been reflected in many business articles published in magazines like the Global Finance Magazine and African Trader. Daniel is a Certified Associate of the Institute of Bankers in South Africa.

Shamilah is a partner in the banking and finance department of Bowman Gilfillan. Since 2007, she was a partner in the energy, infrastructure, project and asset finance group of a leading international firm which she joined in New York in 1998.

Some of the most recent transactions Shamilah has acted on include

acting as international counsel to Eskom on its participation as single buyer and grid service provider in the South African REIPPP Programme, acting as international counsel to Eskom on its participation as single buyer and transmission service provider to peaking power projects in South Africa, acting as international counsel to an AIM listed company on its coal to power project in Mozambique, acting as international counsel to a Brazilian hydropower developer on its hydropower project in Mozambique, acting as international counsel to a Sino-US investor on its upstream investments in two solar photovoltaic projects in South Africa, acting as counsel to several South African banks on the project financing of various renewable energy projects and acting as international counsel to a Sino-US investor on its upstream investment in a coal to power project in Botswana. Shamilah’s accolades include the International Who’s Who of Project Finance, Best Lawyer – Lawyers of the Year for Project Finance, Chambers Global for South Africa (Projects & Energy).

Mtutu has over 32 years’ experience in economic regulation, regulatory research and analysis, accounting, finance, consulting, due diligence, forensic audits, project management, investment analysis for stock exchange listed companies and Greenfields projects.

Mtutu took over the role of the Financial Controller at an Independent Development Trust before joining Old Mutual as an Investment Analyst. From 2002 on, Mtutu worked as Senior Financial Analyst and Senior Manager of Regulatory Analysis Research for the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). Since 2008, Mtutu has been engaged in numerous consultancy projects assisting the private as well as the public sectors in developing regulatory strategies for the power sector.

Mtutu took a leading role in the development of Regulatory Reporting Manuals for the electricity, piped gas and petroleum pipelines industries of South Africa at NERSA, the development of regulatory methodologies for the Regulation of Electricity Supply Industry in South Africa at NERSA and the development of the regulatory strategy for the electricity industry of Nigeria.
