• All students performing at or above grade level.• Achievement gaps eliminated.• All students graduate ready for college, career,

and life in globally competitive economy.• All schools meet or exceed state accountability

standards; district meets federal standards and exceeds state standards.

Strong Partnerships

• We are all accountable for the education and welfare of Austin’s children.

• To succeed, this plan requires the commitment of: – teachers, principals and district staff; – students and their families;– Austin community partners.

Strategy 2: Building Strong Relationships with Students, Families and the Community

1. Use multiple methods of communication and engagement to gain community input, participation, and partnerships in sharing responsibility for student success.

2. Increase collaboration to support health and human services, housing and community planning.

3. Ensure schools have resources and services to support students and their families.

4. Provide necessary translation and interpretation services at all schools.

AISD’s Promise to the Community

If your children— • Go to school in AISD, • Have no unexcused absences,• Do their homework, and• Stay in AISD schools for at least three

consecutive years—They will graduate ready for college,

career, and life in a globally competitive economy.

Promise Needed from Students and Their Families

Students will:

• Come to school on time,

• Stay for the entire school day, and

• Will be provided the time, space, and oversight needed to complete their homework.

Promise Needed from Community Partners

The future of Austin depends on the future success of our students.

We are asking community partners to share in the accountability for our goals by:– Tutoring and mentoring;– Supporting after-school programs and

student-support services; and– Bringing new resources to our schools.

Strategic Plan Priorities for 2010

Priorities for first year of plan include:• Improving Attendance;

– One day of school missed per week=One year of school missed every five years.

– Every missed day costs schools $45 per student.• Improving Dropout Prevention, including creating

multiple pathways for HS students to recover credits and catch up;

• Creating Dual Language programs;• Support for AU schools/Turnaround model;• Full-time counselor in every elementary school.

• Strategic compensation funding;
