Thesis Tips

Create a crystal clear, concise thesis that states your side/opinion

Ex 1: “Monogamy is great for some people, especially married people with children, but for others it is quite unrealistic and only invites tension in the relationship”

Ex 2:“An intimate, lasting relationship is only possible through monogamy.

In which thesis is writer’s opinion more apparent? Why?

The Introduction

Write an engaging Intro. that shows relevance/controversy for your topic

This eliminates the “my dad is better than your dad” paper

Why should reader care about this issue?

The Other Side aka: The Idiots Acknowledge the "other side," the

opposition Create a “straw man” that proves your

reasoning to be vastly superior; knock it down with each fact/stat/quote in each successive paragraph

Opposition should be at least 1 paragraph (perhaps the 1st body > see swinger diagram)

You may also dedicate the first part of each TS to the opposition (see Swinger #2)
