Open to all media and skill levels. No instruction-simply an opportunity to paint or draw from live models in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The models may be clothed or nude. There will be a series of short and longer poses depending on the wishes of the group. DRAWING THE PORTRAIT WITH KATHY WEBER Working from a live model, we will discuss the proportions of the face and how to use light and shadow to block in the features. There will be a teacher demonstration each class. All you will need are paper, pencils, charcoal and an eraser. This class would be a good introduction to Painting the Portrait in 4 Colors (see below). Instructor: Kathy Weber has a BFA/Painting from UMass Dartmouth. She has won numerous awards and her work has been published in American Artist Magazine. She has a background in commercial art and illustration. PAINTING PORTRAITS IN 4 COLORS WITH KATHY WEBER Using a limited palette of only 4 colors can simplify portrait painting. This is the palette made famous by Swedish master painter Anders Zorn, a contemporary of John Singer Sargent. First we will create a color chart where students will see how versatile and effective this group of four colors can be for painting skin and hair. Then we’ll paint from a live model. The teacher starts each class with a demonstration. Oils and acrylics welcome. Some previous drawing or painting experience, such as Drawing the Portrait , are recommended. WATERCOLOR WITH JOHN TOLLEY Learn or expand your watercolor painting skills in this fun class. We’ll work from a still life set-up and you’ll come away with several finished paintings. This is a past-time which will reward you with many hours of enjoyment to come. Open to beginners or those with some watercolor experience. Instructor: John Tolley didn’t pick up a paintbrush until later in life but has gone on to become an award-winning watercolorist. Become inspired to embark on your own journey to becoming an artist. Date: 5 Thursdays, March 10, 17, 24, 31 April 7 Time: 10-12 noon Tuition: $85/$75 PAG members

CAST PAPER SCULPTURE WITH LISA MAY TOBIN Handmade paper is created using natural fibers. Our first class will be about the history of papermaking and learning how to form sheets of paper using cotton and abaca as pulp. We will begin to design and construct an armature to reflect your vision . The second class will be about finishing the armature and casting the paper to the form. In the third class finish your sculpture with paint, decorative papers and any whimsical objects you wish to add. Instructor: Life began with a brochure I picked up while studying at the Art Student’s League, about a “new” art form using the ancient technique of papermaking. I’ve been busy ever since using fiber to create sculpture. Date: 3 Fridays, April 15, 22, 29 Time: 9:30-12 noon Tuiton: $90/$80 PAG members ($10 materials fee to be paid to instructor on April 15) DISCOVER THE BEAUTY OF EGG TEMPERA WITH KATHY HODGE Egg tempera, of course, starts with the egg yolk. Add dry pigments and a little water and you have a

luminous, permanent painting medium that is as old as the ancient Egyptians and as new as work that is being produced today. We will learn about materials, best practices and technique and you will be provided with prepared panels, pigments and eggs. Please bring your preferred watercolor brushes to class. Various natural specimens will be available as subject matter, but you may also being your own man-made or natural objects to work from.

KNOW YOUR SUBJECT-PREPARING STUDIES WITH KATHY HODGE Work towards an enhanced understanding of your subject as you prepare studies in black and white and color in preparation for your finished piece. We will uncover what initially attracted you to your subject and what you would like to communicate, while working out problems and gaining insight into structure and color relationships. During our last class we will reference our studies, discuss what we learned from the process and begin our final project.

Instructor: Kathy Hodge has exhibited her oil paintings in many one person and group shows throughout Rhode Island. She usually works in series, preparing dozens of studies of her subjects, which she enjoys showing along with her oils. She has a BFA in Painting from the Swain School of Design and has been appointed Artist in Residence at 10 National Parks and 2 National Forests. MONOTYPE PRINTMAKING WITH SUZANNE LEWIS A monotype is known as the “painterly print”. Students will paint images on a plate with inks or watercolors then press them on sheets of paper to create one of a kind prints. Learn this technique which was a favorite of Degas’. No printmaking experience requires. This class is a good transition from painting to printmaking. Instructor: Suzanne Lewis is an award winning printmaker with a Master in Arts in Teaching from RI College and Certificate in Drawing and Painting Studies from RISD Continuing Education Program. She has bee studying and teaching printmaking for many years. Date: Saturday, April 30 Time: 10-4 Tuition: $70/$60 PAG members ($10 materials fee to be paid to instructor 4/30)

DRAWING AT COGGESHALL FARM WITH SUZANNE LEWIS Come and enjoy 3 days at beautiful Coggeshall Farm in Bristol and learn or review basic drawing skills. We will spend one day each on still life, landscape and buildings using charcoal, a very forgiving drawing media. Coggeshall Farm is our basis and inspiration. Open to beginners or those with some drawing experience. PAINTING THE IMPRESSIONIST STILL LIFE WITH MARY GIAMMARINO Painting still life has many possibilities, a vase of flowers, cloth with china, a bottle with grapes… The possibilities are endless. Studying still life is exactly the same as studying the landscape. We study the masses and their color relationships. We work one color note next to the other. We will explore the subtleties and drama in simple forms. Depending on the weather, we may paint an outdoor still life. Open to all levels. Oils and water soluble oils are preferred but acrylics are acceptable. Instructor: Mary Giammarino has painted and taught classes in the Cape Cod School of Art technique since 1989. She teaches on Cape Cod, Vermont and Italy. She is represented by the Julie Heller Gallery in Provincetown and the Elizabeth Rowley Gallery in Orleans, Ma. Time: 10-4 PM Tuition: $225/$200 PAG member 6 COLORS TO A BETTER PAINTING WITH VANESSA PICHE Colors that sing and paintings that pop is what this class will do for you. Learn the ease of mixing your own beautiful clean colors from a limited palette which wills save you time, money and frustration. Day 1 will be spent in the studio mixing the color wheel and learning the skill set of the complimentary palette. Day 2 will be working outside on location. We will focus on strong, quick starts using our complimentary palette outside. Powerpoint presentations and demos provided. All levels in oils or acrylics. Instructor: 2015 U.S. Artist for Volvo Ocean Race Vanessa is a passionate, plein air artist who captures her emotional response to the world around her. Citing “nature as her temple” she sees each painting as a creation that feeds her soul. ZENTANGLE WITH LIBBY GILPATRIC Zentangle is an easy-to–learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful designs by drawing a series of repeating patterns. Prior art experience is not necessary. Anxiety and stress seem to melt away as one becomes involved in the activity. Learning Zentangle is easy and relaxing for a range of skill levels and ages. Zentangle practice increases focus and a sense of achievement. Using only a pocketful of materials, Zentangle can be done anywhere, alone or in a group. Students will create up to 5 or more completed tiles of 3.5 inch squares. Materials including paper and pens will be provided. Instructor: The only certified Zentangle teacher (CZT) listed by Zentangle.com on this side of the Bay is Libby Gilpatric. A calligrapher and painter, Libby discovered Zentangle a few years ago. So smitten with the intricate black and white patterns, she became a CZT to

CRAFTING THE STORY WITH GLENNA ANDRADE Share in the community of writers who will explore the art of creating a story. We’ll work with lessons, samples, practice, and collaborative experiences. All levels of writers are welcome. For those who are apprehensive, toss aside any negative criticism from the past and instead, enjoy experimenting. Make your characters come to life. And get them in trouble. Instructor: Your writing coach, Glenna Andrade, has taught writing for 32 years and has been writing longer than that. She holds an MFA in Fiction Writing along with other degrees. Her publications began with a humor column in a city newspaper and encompassed other genres, including informal essays, short stories and novels.
