“Seeds of Hope” Building Project is
Ahead of Schedule
I was sitting in my
office yesterday when a
bunch of men with clip-
boards starting walking
around the church looking
in almost every room.
They were contractors and subcontractors who are
learning about our church building and about our
“Seeds of Hope” expansion and remodeling project.
The project is set to break ground in May of 2018.
I want to thank the entire community for
your incredible response to our capital funds pro-
gram. We currently have received $531,353. to-
ward the “Seeds of Hope” fund. Our congregational
leaders have promised to not break ground until we
have one half a million dollars on hand. We have
reached that goal about nine months early.
During the next few months the building
plans will be finalized, bid wills be received and the
landscaping and decorating teams will start to
meet to work out details. I am in consultation with
the Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA for any
financial support that our congregation might need
during this process.
Thank you for your impressive support of
our effort to make our building more hospitable and
welcome to everyone in our community!
I’m looking forward to May arriving in the coming
year,
Pastor Larry
Crafty Cow
Crafty Cow is an opportunity for relaxed conversation on
matters of our faith. Each “Crafty Cow” emphasizes a par-
ticular topic but there is always room for what might be on
the minds of those around the table. Over the last several
years both men and women have met at the CRAFTY COW
in downtown Oconomowoc, enjoy a beverage of their own
choosing and settle in for the give and take. We are
please to share the conversations will continue and new
dates have been selected. Plan on coming on Thursday
evenings September 14, October 26th (close to the obser-
vance of the Reformation), and December 6th. We will
meet at 7pm. For more information please speak with
Doug Braun, Gary Liedtke and/or Pastor Larry.

added together can bring in a nice check to be deposited into our Sunday School/Youth accounts. Continue to shop
“The Pig” and save your receipts.
ST. BEN’S
We are always in need of bags of sage/onion stuffing and 16-18# turkeys. These items may be dropped off in our
kitchen or placed in one of our freezers.
2017 FLOWER/CANDLE CHART
Pick a date to honor a loved one or special occasion with flowers on the altar. We have many dates to choose from.
The sign-up is on the bulletin board in the Narthex.
COFFEE HOUR SIGN-UP
There are several dates during the months of November and December that have not been
filled. The sign-up sheet is placed on the table in the Sanctuary. It is an excellent opportunity
for your group to welcome new members of the congregation and at the same time, give all
members a chance to catch up with each other over a cup of coffee. If your group has not
signed up please discuss amongst yourselves and choose one of the available dates.
We are blessed at DMLC with many passionate volunteers!!
Dear Lord, may I not forget the needs of others. I ask that you give me a heart of love, that I
may serve you. Amen

500 years ago, a young Professor of
Theology in the dusty German com-
munity of Wittenberg, the history of
the church and our understanding of
faith was bent in a new direction.
The new insight emphasized God’s
love rather than human responsibil-
ity. It was and still is a ‘big deal’.
This fall the whole world is celebrating the 500th year of
the Reformation and Dr. Martin Luther will have it’s own
celebration.
One of the pieces of the celebration will be a 4 session
conversation in the Life, Times and Teachings of Martin
Luther. The sessions will be guided by Gary Liedtke and
Pastor Larry. The conversations will take place on
Wednesday evenings October 26th, November 1st, Novem-
ber 8th and November 15th at 7:00pm.
Please mark these dates on your calendar and plan to be
to celebrate Reformation 500.
Reformation 500
Our team is looking for men
to join us for an evening of
fun, competition and enter-
tainment.
Games are played on Mon-
day nights at 7:30 p.m. here
at home or at other churches
in the area.
The game is played in a baseball format by throwing darts
under-handed towards a large board shaped with a base-
ball "diamond". The season runs into March, 2018 with
breaks for the winter holidays.
Want more information? Call Jay Johns at 567-9595 or
Don Scharfenberg at 567-2791.
The DMLC Men’s Dartball Team 2017-18
season will begin soon.
The people who visit our
homebound members and
give them communion will be
meeting on Tuesday, Septem-
ber 19th at 10:00 a.m. on the
second floor of the education
building. All who are currently visiting our home-
bound and anyone who may be interested in learn-
ing more are invited to come and join us.

College Goody Boxes
Our college stu-
dents have just be-
gun their new life in
college. Sometimes
homesickness be-
comes overwhelm-
ing, and a goody
box shows them
how much they’re being thought of! Our young
adults have been working hard on their classes and
adjusting to their new routines and would love to
receive a box of goodies from our congregation.
There will be a box in the narthex to collect individu-
ally wrapped snacks such as cookies, crackers,
gum, chips, candy, microwavable soups, popcorn,
beef jerky, etc. Small packets of kleenex, hand
sanitizer, pens, highlighters, etc are also wel-
comed. Cash donations for postage or purchases
can be taken to the church office. The boxes are
the size of a post office medium mailing box, so
items need to be small. Letters of encouragement
are welcome too.
I’d like to pack and ship the first week of October
and help is always appreciated! Don’t forget to turn
in your students’ name and address! I make a new
list each time we send these out!
Thanks for your support!

Does this ride make a difference in lives of those
served by the 19 ministries sponsored by Out-
reach for Hope in the Greater Milwaukee Synod?
Food Ministry is one example of the support and
the numbers for an average week are amazing:
34 meal events or pantries are open; 4,059
meals are served or food bags given; and 3,750
meals are distributed to other food ministries by
Just One More Ministry. Congregations or minis-
tries support 14 meal programs, 13 food pan-
tries, 1 urban beekeeping, and 11 gardening pro-
grams.

A big thanks to all of our Dr.

Vacation Bible
School has come
and gone leaving
wonderful memories
and a new found joy
of God’s love behind
for our kids.
We listened to stories and discussed our rela-
tionships with God and how we can serve him.
We learned about Peru and some of the chil-
dren there. How they live, what they eat and
games they play. We learned that we have a lot
in common. Even our love of Christ. Of course
there was a lot of music and dancing!
Throughout the week we talked about the need
for clean drinking water and collected money to
help drill a well. By the end of the week and af-
ter dunking a few courageous VBS leaders in a
dunk tank, we collected $500! Enough to pro-
vide 100 children with clean drinking water for
an entire year!
We look forward to next year and the new ad-
ventures it will bring!
Sunday School begins Sun-
day, September 10th. Regis-
tration forms were sent via e-
mail and are also available in
the back of the Sanctuary and
in classrooms. All children
from 4k up are welcome!
This year we will be building new relationships with our
Sunday School friends in Tanzania beginning with a
prayer, picture and correspondence telling them all
about ourselves.
Our team this year will change just a bit. Two of our
teachers will be changing classrooms and we will be
joined by a new member. Preschool and 5K will be led
by Angie Lewein and Brenda Scherret, first and second
grade by Maddie Lewein and Kayla Dehnert, third and
fourth grade by Klaire Blunck and Abbey Blunck, and
fifth and sixth will be led by Ray Meuer and Rachel Zas-
trow. Please take time to welcome Klaire and thank all of
our teachers for their time and for fulfilling their promise
made at baptism to nurture our kid’s faith!
Please feel free to contact any of us with questions!
Blessings,
Your DMLC Sunday School Team
