The Pioneer Crossing Project Location – Shaw Road

• Puyallup has two urban growth centers as defined by the Puget Sound Regional Council (the “PSRC”).

• The growth centers are connect by SR- 512 but traffic congestion was inhibiting residents ability to get to mass transit options in downtown Puyallup that are designed to connect Puyallup to the rest of the region.

• Puget Sound governments as well as the Federal Government viewed the situation as a regional priority so grants were given to Puyallup to widen Shaw and connect Shaw road to downtown Puyallup with a newly constructed overpass.

• Now the large single and multi family projects being constructed along the Shaw corridor have a major arterial to get to other regional centers without having to clog SR -512.

• The PSRC states the newly improved the Shaw road corridor currently has 19,600 daily trips and is forecasted to increase 40% by 2030.
