Spanish rhapsody (1887)

(1882-1949)He is one of the most important 20th century Spanish composers, second only to Manuel de Falla. Born in the Andalusian city of Seville, he was throughout his life fascinated by the hustle of this city. The composition "Canto a Sevilla" is a large, forty minute work, in which Turina set to music poems of a Sevillan poet with themes like the vibrant Easter Procession, the spirit of flamenco, and the ornamental fountains of the city ... - It is, in short, a loving homage to Sevilla! This work is complemented by three smaller pieces for mezzo-soprano and orchestra: a short "Farucca" a form of flamenco and “Poem in the form of song " and "Saeta, en forma de salve ", two song cycles for mezzo soprano and orchestra. Brazilian conductor Celso Antunes has the temperament, and the emotional connectedness to this subject matter to convincingly realize the exotic impressions and infectious rhythms.
