What is abortion• Abortion is the termination of a

pregnancy. • Whether a women's pregnancy is

terminated by choice or by accident, it is still considered abortion.

What is a fetus?

• A fetus is an unborn child. • The fetal stage comes after the

embryonic stage, after the eighth week of gestation or the 10th week of pregnancy, and lasts until birth.

Page 4: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• As an embryo develops into a fetus, it grows arms and legs and begins to develop fingers and toes.

• The fetus begins to form ears and eyelids. During the eighth week of pregnancy, the fetus’s lungs begin to develop and its brain continues development.

• At this stage the embryo is still very small, less than 0.75 of an inch long.

• Given the large amount of abortions performed each year, the actual number of abortions done after the first twelve weeks of pregnancy is quite large, even though it is a small percentage of the 1.3 million abortions done annually.

• Rape •

Rape is a horrible abuse with traumatic effects for many of its victims. A

woman who carries in her womb a child of a rape is bound to feel negatively towards the child. Nevertheless, Should we make an innocent creature pay for his father's crime?

Page 8: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

Pregnancy Through Rape or Incest• If a girl is raped she may have trouble

connecting emotionally with the child.• A girl can have emotional problems after the

trauma of the rape and may be unable to cope with a pregnancy or raising a child.

• “Some people say abortion is murder while others say it is the most humane way to terminate a pregnancy”.

MY INTERVIEW • One of the key parts of helping a mom or dad recover

from an abortion is to help them work through the anger stage of the grieving process. That is, once the person can get to the point of being willing to accept the child as a person to be grieved for instead of a bad memory that they have tried very hard to forget. The woman especially can be very angry at herself, the abortion clinic, the father, anyone involved in her decision or even God. One chapter is dedicated to anger only in the post abortion Bible study we use. It is the only chapter that we offer to go over for two weeks instead of the regular one week interval per chapter.

5 Types of Abortion!

Page 14: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• SUCTION ABORTION: USED BEFORE 10 WEEKS • A tube is inserted into the uterus and

connected to a strong suction machine. The vacuum is so powerful the baby is ripped to pieces and sucked into a jar -- arms, legs, torso, and head.• Done at abortion clinics.

Page 15: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• D & C ABORTIONS: • The D&C abortion is done before 12 weeks. A

hook-shaped knife is inserted into the uterus and cuts the baby into small pieces. His head is crushed with the forceps to allow removal through the narrow passage. The womb is then scraped out completely. Bleeding is sometimes profuse.

• Done at abortion clinics.

Page 16: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• PROSTAGLANDIN ABORTIONS: • This hormone drug, injected into the

amniotic sac, produces labor and premature birth. The baby in most cases is born alive with a heart beat and is then put aside to die.

Page 17: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• SALINE ABORTION: • A strong poison solution of salt is injected,

through the belly, into the amniotic sac. The helpless baby is forced to swallow this deadly poison. He suffers severely; he kicks and jerks violently; he is being burned alive, and his skin peels off. Twenty-four to 48 hours later the mother delivers a dead baby.

Page 18: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• HYSTEROTOMY ABORTIONS: • As in a Cesarean Section, the abdomen

is cut open and the baby is lifted out while he moves, squirms, fights to breathe, and sometimes cries. While his heart is beating he is left to die.

Manual Vaccum Aspiration What is MVA? MVA is used to abort a child from 3 weeks to 12 weeks of age. This handheld syringe works by creating its own vacuum/suction. MVAs are used and reused millions of times a year around the world. The major problem with the MVA is that it has a very weak vacuum. This means that the child is ripped apart slowly.

• Cannula• This is simply a hollow plastic tube that is attached

to a suction machine by a flexible hose. In early-term abortions it is used to kill and dismember the baby, and then suck it out of the mother's uterus. In later abortions where other techniques are used to kill and dismember the baby, the cannula/suction machine is used to vacuum out the uterus and make certain that no parts of the baby are left behind.

Page 21: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• Curette• This is a metal rod with a handle on one end

and a sharp loop on the other. It is used to scrape along the wall of the mother's uterus and dislodge her child.

Page 22: The Physical and Mental Effects of ABORTION

• Forceps• This is a metal instrument that resembles a

pair of scissors but functions like a pair of pliers. They come in several different styles but regardless of design they are used to grasp, pull apart, and/or remove the baby. Forceps are especially useful in collapsing the skull and making it easier to pull the skull through the mother's cervix.

• Abortion is one of the most common medical procedures performed in the United States each year. More than 40% of all women will end a pregnancy by abortion at some time in their reproductive lives. • While women of every social class seek

terminations, the typical woman who ends her pregnancy is either young, white, unmarried, poor, or over the age of 40.
