WHAT IS LONG-DISTANCE 

RELATIONSHIP ...?

According to our observation, Long Distance

Relationship (LDR) is a relationship that is

separated by some conditions. Whether it's thedistance and time.

LDR usually lead to lack of 

communication between each other. If a

person is undergoing LDR, then that person mustbe good at maintaining

communication and relationships built.

EXAMPLE ...

We take on observation as an example from Rindhita’s brother who are

undergoing long distance relationship with his girlfriend. Rindhita’s brother said that LDR

is really very uncomfortable because it must be clever to set of good communication in

order to remain established a good relationship as well too. He also said that he and his

girlfriend oftentimes involved some quarrel. And it happen in the phone. Because thedistance, they only do the communication by phone, SMS or in some social network. And

we analyze that it because the nonverbal communication is not good. Moreover, the

chance to meet is also very difficult. However, nonverbal communication is also the most

important thing that we must note to obtain the good communication. And now, he break

his relationship because he doesn’t have enough feeling to resist how unpleasant long

distance relationship is.

APPLICATION IN 3 VARIANT 

OF PHENOMENOLOGY ...

And in this case, we try to associate with some theories in the phenomenological

tradition and then analyze it. For the first, 3 variant of phenomenology :

•Classical Phenomenology We think that in long distance relationship is unrelated with classical phenomenology,

because classical phenomenology is explain about phenomenology which taken for

granted.

•Phenomenology of Perception For this case, we don’t find about phenomenology of perception.

•Hermeunetic Phenomenology According to our group, in long distance relationship as we’ve observating, there’s

many phenomena associated with hermeunetic phenomenology. One of it is SMS. SMS

is one kind of interpretation and undersatnding of text.

5 CONCEPT OF 

PHENOMENOLOGY ...

•Experience Everyone has their own experiences of something that has no similarity to the

experience of others.

And differences in each person experiences it makes sense that different.

People who have much experience about the long-distance relationships or frequent

longdistance relationship, be more patient and more understanding with her partner.

Because in the long-distance relationship if they want their relationship remain durable and

continues up to the level of marriage will need a lot of patience and understanding

between one another.

•Dialogue Understanding of experience can be obtained through dialogue - sharing

experiences about something. In long distance relationship, there’s a dialogue that talking

about anything. Although it’s not by face to face, but also by phone or short text messages

(SMS). It can show that dialogue is one of concept of phenomenology.

•Authenticity

Authenticity of experience - the view of things should not be abstract, must be real.

According to our observation, in long distance relationship (for the case of Rindhita’s

brother) the authencity of LDR is very unpleasant. Because there’s not give a good

communication and causing very much misunderstanding. •Interpretation

To give meaning to the other’s experiences who are considered to have similar thoughts -

involve ourselves in ‘an experience puzzle’ that have ever felt by that person. We think

that this case is doesn’t related with this concept. 

•Otherness Respect the other’s experience - there's no coercion to others in

understanding and responding to something. We also don’t find abot otherness

experience.
