The Education Partnership

Intern

This summer, I interned at a non-profit organization called The Education Partnership. Their mission is to send school supplies to local schools in need, where most students cannot provide their own lunches let alone school supplies. Rather than an intern, I acted as their database manager to help them fix, maintain, and customize their Salesforce database. I also helped them communicate with their consultants, and eventually took over their duties. I will be continuing my internship into the fall, as I learned so much from a very hands-on and fruitful experience.

Pittsburgh Festival Opera

Intern

I had the privilege to work as a Marketing Intern and sing in the company of the Young Professional Artist Program at the Pittsburgh Festival Opera (previously the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh). After starting full time in mid-May, my work as a Marketing Intern included managing social media pages, writing articles for the website, organizing advertisements with outside organizations to promote our company’s season, preparing press materials, and researching the five full operas that were included in our 6-week season. As a Young Professional Artist, I participated in two of the company’s productions, first as the understudy for Xerxes in Handel’s Xerxes, and as Marcellina in scenes from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro

This summer was incredibly busy, but equally rewarding as I continued to learn the ins and outs of a complex industry. I am extremely grateful for the Dozzi family’s generosity and for the opportunity to be a part of the thriving Pittsburgh classical music scene.

National Labor Relations Board

Volunteer Field Examiner Trainee

I was able to gain a number of valuable experiences throughout the internship that built upon what I have learned in my studies at Carnegie Mellon. Being an Ethics, History, and Public Policy major, working with the NLRB was a chance to see up-close the real world application of public policy. Labor policy in particular is an area that is near and dear to my heart as it exemplifies in my mind a synthesis of my major’s three disciplines. It has been my impression, that the story of human history has often been the policy of unethical exploitation of the labor of the poor majority. By working for the NLRB I was able to contemplate the philosophical and practical aims of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). The aim of the NLRA was to ensure industrial stability, but an unjust stability in which a poor majority is exploited might, in my mind, be worth waging a war against. It is for this reason that I have come to appreciate the NLRA as a sort of milestone in furthering the freedom of man because the Act conceived of the United States’ vital economic interest of industrial stability being met the best when workers had the legal power to collectively bargain and act in concert to improve their conditions.

Einhorn Media Group

Intern

I am so thankful to have had the support from the Dozzi family for my experience in Pittsburgh this summer, as I truly have learned many skills that have developed me into a better candidate for the career I want to pursue.

Working at Einhorn Media Group has given me the ability to express my strategic marketing knowledge with Creative Director and Owner, Jay Einhorn (CMU Alumni, actually!) and listen to his feedback on how I can alter my own ideas so that they fit current marketing trends. I have learned how to use basic Photoshop, how to create leads documents, and I have even gained many teamwork skills and leadership skills as I have been able to work with the studio. My summer here at EMG has taught me that I truly do have a passion for marketing, and it has reassured me that I am studying the right curriculum at Carnegie Mellon.

Bike Pittsburgh

Business Development Intern

This summer I worked as the Business Development Intern at BikePGH. My responsibilities ranged from working directly with business sponsors to analyzing data from various platforms, such as Salesforce. I not only developed technical skills, but also interpersonal skills through my internship, which will prepare me for a career in the corporate world upon graduation.

The Dozzi scholarship provided the means for me to intern at BikePGHthis summer. The scholarship helped pay for my housing during my 4 months in Pittsburgh.
