Elements are substances made up of only one atom. There are about 100 elements in the world such as gold, bronze and carbon dioxide. Each element can be represented by a name and symbol. Hydrogen has the symbol H, sodium the symbol S and magnesium the symbol MG. K is the symbol for potassium.

All the elements are arranged in a chart called the Periodic Table.
