Beautiful La Croix

La Croix has a 6 x 12m swimming pool; sun-loungers, parasols and sitting areas. This pool is floodlit at night. There is a child's paddling pool in the pool enclosure. The Pool is open from May through to the end of September.

La Croix has a 6 seat Jacuzzi and a 4 seat sauna. Both are open all year round.

There is a safe, enclosed, all-day-shaded children's play area for under-tens and there is a games room for table tennis, family games or wet weather activities. In addition to the private terraces and barbecues in each cottage, there is also a large public terrace and communal barbecue for larger groups and celebrations.

There are separate areas away from the cottages and pool where you can read, dine or just relax.

Situated in 8 acres of lawn and meadow, La Croix is a complex of 19th Century Charentaise barns dating from 1809 and beautifully restored in 1997. The complex consists of 4 cottages with sleeping accommodation as follows:

Sartre: 2 bedroom (sleeps 4) (discount available for couple-only bookings outside high season).

Open-plan living-dining area. Kitchen area with stable door leading to private terrace with barbecue. 1st floor, has double bedroom, twin bedroom and bathroom with bath, WC and shower. Corneille: 4 bedroom (sleeps 8)

There are all sorts of local activities to suit all interest, ages and capabilities. Here are just a few.

Lakes of the Haute Charente One mile from La Croix, these lakes offer sandy, supervised and enclosed beaches for safe bathing; sailing (and tuitition), pedaloes, wind-surfing. There are restaurants and snack bars there. There is also an equestrian centre attached to this site and a disco nearby!

Kayaking The Vienne provides river Kayaking at Exideuil and Etagnac.

Acrobranche There is an adventure park 3 miles away which is suspended totally in the trees (minimum height restrictions)

Biking There are numerous, labelled mountain bike trails of varying difficulty and gradient, including one circling the ancient meteorite crater and the lakes. Adult mountain bikes can be hired from La Croix. Try the ‘Velo Rail’ . This is a cart on a disused railway line in which you pop yourself, your children and a picnic and cycle from Confolens to Rou-mazieres (14 km). Needs booking.

Animal Life There are a number of excellent animal parks within easy reach including Valley of the Monkeys, Insect World, Snake Island.

Do not forget, Futuroscope, The Confolens Festival, The martyred village of Oradour sur Glane and the Cognac distilleries are all within easy reach.
