Employee of the MonthMay 2018

Miguel PerezLunch under the trees

Did you know that the Pavilion, the new kitchen, is open at lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.? There are lots of lunch items on the “Grab n’ Go” counter. There’s the classic Cobb salad, a Chinese chicken salad, the Pavilion salad which is made of local lettuces, goat cheese, grapes, dried cranberries, sugared walnuts with a raspberry vinaigrette, and a healthy kale quinoa salad with pomegranate, roasted butternut squash, golden raisin, Granny Smith apple, heirloom tomatoes, tangerines, and Marcona almonds served with a citrus fennel vinaigrette. There are also sandwiches – chicken Waldorf, grilled chicken wrap and a multi grain salad wrap. Lots of sides too – fruit cup, sushi roll, potato and pasta salad, and devilled eggs.

If you have a few minutes to enjoy your lunch under the shade of the trees, order from the regular menu. My favorites are the rotisserie porchetta grinder sandwich served with rapini, roasted peppers, provolone and basil aioli; Thai steak salad with cashews, ginger pineapple salsa, tofu, butter lettuce with sesame ginger vinaigrette; and, the ceviche tostada with marinated tilapia and shrimp, cucumber, tomato, onion, avocado and shredded lettuce.

I look forward to seeing you all at The Athenaeum. Please drop by my office when you are next at the club. Or, hope to see you at the Rath al Fresco.

Marisu Jimenez General Manager

(Marisu’s Message Corner)

Miguel has been with The Athenaeum for 20 years and is one of our Food and Beverage Captains. He ensures that everything runs smoothly in our dining rooms and often goes above and beyond the call of duty for his team as well as our members, who all know Miguel by name.

Miguel was born and raised in Michoacán, Mexico, and moved to California when he was 20. He celebrates 26 years of marriage to his wife, Karla, and is a dedicated father to Michelle, 21, who is graduating from USC’s Marshall School of Business next year, and his two sons, Miguel Jr., 22, and Mark, 11. An avid sports fan, Miguel wakes up at 4 a.m. to watch the World Cup and loves attending USC football games and rooting for the Dodgers.

Congratulations, Miguel, for a job well done!

National Hot Dog Day at Rath al FrescoJoin us at the Rath al Fresco to celebrate one of America’s most popular foods! All hot dogs served with a delicious side of garlic fries. The Rath al Fresco menu will be available as well.(Please see menu on our website.)WEDNESDAY, JULY 185:00 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.$8.00 per hot dog

Summertime in the Rath al Fresco is one of the most anticipated times on The Athenaeum’s calendar, especially for young families. We are truly delighted that the Rath al Fresco is able to provide green space for children of all ages to run around and have fun. While we enjoy the laughter and energy of children playing, we ask that parents remember that it is always your responsibility to monitor your children and keep an eye on them at all times. Please keep your children happy and safe by watching them closely and preventing them from engaging in dangerous activities like climbing trees and wandering out of sight. The Athenaeum thanks you for your cooperation.

UPCOMING BANKING INSTITUTION CHANGEEffective August 1, 2018, The Athenaeum will be moving its banking activities from Bank of America to J.P. Morgan Chase. This move will change the address where members mail their payments.

How will this change impact you?

If you pay your Athenaeum bill online: There will be no change to your payment process.

If you bank online: Starting with the July 2018 statement, which you will receive in August, you will need to update The Athenaeum’s payment address on your bank’s payment portal. The new address will be found on The Athenaeum’s website on August 1, 2018, under the “My Statement” tab.

If you pay your bill by mail: Starting with the July 2018 billing, which you will receive in August, you will receive a blue envelope pre-printed with the new payment address along with your member statement.

At that time, use of any other colored envelope will no longer be valid and may result in delays in processing payments.

Additional note: Please do not mail or hand-deliver payment envelopes directly to The Athenaeum. All billing payments should occur online or via US mail, using the blue envelope.

If you have any questions: Please contact Meeta Bindra, Finance Director, at either (626) 395-8267 or [email protected].
