CHILDREN’S CHOIRS
One of the things I appreciate about our church is our ministry to children. We put a lot of resources
into encouraging children in their faith and spiritual development. The two Tuesday after school Children’s
Choirs certainly strive to reach out to kids.
Well, it’s almost choir time! We will start choir for the 2018-2019 school year Tuesday, September
11. That’s less than two weeks away. On most Tuesdays in the school year, we pick up the students after
Patterns of Evidence The Exodus: A Filmmaker’s Journey.
Timothy Mahoney made this film in 2016 as a result of 12 years explor-
ing evidence for the biblical Exodus. Many people, including archaeolo-
gists and scholars, do not believe the Exodus ever happened. Mo-
honey’s film takes us on a journey of his exploration of Egypt and other
places in search for evidence for the Exodus. I too have been exploring
evidence for the Exodus. I am still researching new leads.
The singular even which set course for making Israel a people and a nation was the Exodus. Exodus was Israel’s “salvation ex-
perience.” Yet, some Rabbi’s don’t think it ever happened. Similarly, Jesus death on the cross and resurrection is our salvation
event. Surprisingly, in our day there are many ministers who do not believe that event happened either. As one minister told
me once, “We know this never happened, but we do it anyway.” I ask, “If you don’t believe it happened, then why are you
here?”
I invite you to enter a journey of exploration into Exodus starting September 9. We will study the film over three Sunday eve-
nings in the sanctuary. We will watch the film for 40 minutes and then discuss what we learn. I would like to know if you are
planning on joining the group.
Blessings,

school in the church vans. The students are taken to the church and served light refreshments. Then they
have their choir time until 5:00. There are two groups: Music Makers, for students in 1st - 3
rd grade, and the
King’s Proclaimers Choir, for student in 4th - 6
th grade. These groups are open to any child in our communi-
ty. Our goal is to help the children develop their music skills and to help them grow spiritually.
Pray for this ministry. And, if you are free on Tuesday afternoons from about 3:30 to 5:00 consider
coming to help us. There are even some jobs that do not require you to know anything about music! Come
talk to me if you are interested.
If you have a student who is in the age ranges for these choirs, we would love to have them sing
with us. Contact either Elizabeth Means or me to enroll your child.

Active Commuting
Recently, I’ve started riding my bike to work. It takes me a whole 5 minutes to get from our apartment to the church. I like it because it’s forced exercise, and it saves on gas money. (Contrary to what you might think, I don’t sweat either. I guess the trip is short enough.) This a stark contrast to my days teaching High School in Oklahoma City. It was a 15 minute drive from our apartment to the school. Today, it struck me that I could use my active commute for active prayer as well. Are their seemingly mindless activities you do that can be transformed into times of prayer? Think through your day/week. When can you pray more?
Hangtime! Welcome 7th graders!
Do you know a 7th grader? We are having a special event to welcome them to the youth on Saturday, September 8th. For de-tails, and to fill out appropriate forms, go to fbccuero.org/hangtime . The rest of the youth will be joining us at 4pm that Satur-day for dinner, games, and worship.
Youth Meal Sign-ups!
The response for meal sign-ups so far has been good. Still 6 more slots for this semester available! Thanks for serving our youth.
The school year is under way! Most Sunday nights (with many exceptions throughout the school year), we gather as a youth group to eat, fellowship, and worship together. You can be part of this by providing a meal for approximately 15 people. My goal: Have every Sunday in 2018 scheduled by September 9th! There are 13 Sundays where we’ll have food. Hannah and I will take care of two of those. (Let’s be honest, Hannah will take care of them, but she is doing so graciously.) That leaves just 11 meals we need covered up to Christmas. Could you cover a meal? Could you partner up with a friend to cover a meal? There will be a sign-up sheet on the table across from the coffee bar, OR you can visit https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/qv29q8 . I’ll make sure to keep the two up-to-date with each other. Thank you so much!
