"Let Freedom Ring"!
This was the motto on Friday, January 6 as Boon
Elementary students welcomed a new tradition at
Boon Elementary School with the unveiling of the
new Patriot Bell during a school wide assembly to
ring in the New Year of 2012. Dr. ET Boon
provided the first inaugural ring along with Parker
Primrose, Boon Pride Council President. Dr. Ken
Helvey, Allen ISD Superintendent, was in
attendance and assisted with the presentation. Three 6th graders Katherine Cole,
Ariana Kelly, and Katelyn McDonald closed the program by singing "My Country Tis of
Thee" which concluded with the symbolic words "let freedom ring".
The Patriot Bell will be a special new tradition at Boon as students will get the chance to
ring the bell twice-- once when they graduate from Boon Elementary as 6th graders and
a second time when they are graduating seniors at Allen High School. Seniors who
attended Boon Elementary will return to Boon's campus each spring for this tradition.
Carolyn Magee was instrumental in initiating this new tradition as 2012 is a special
year for Boon Elementary. This year, we celebrate not only this year's 6th grade
class as they made up the first kindergarten class when Boon opened but also the Allen
HS Class of 2012 since they were 6th graders when Boon Elementary opened. The
students and faculty of Boon Elementary are looking forward to the celebratory ringing
of the Patriot Bell this May.
The bell was a custom creation by David Hisey of Hisey Bells in Ohio. Bell Committee
Members were Carolyn Magee, Kristen Arrington, Judi Wohead, and Anna Squire. The
Patriot Bell was provided by three families: Dr. and Mrs. ET Boon Family, Tammie and
Joe James Family, and Anna and Patrick Squire Family on behalf of the Spencer Squire All
Star Golf Tournament. The bell is currently on display through the glass of the front
office. A Special thank you to Mark Guest for making the rolling stand and base for this
beautiful bell.
Please help us in celebrating our Boon Patriots and our new tradition of the Patriot Bell. "Let Freedom Ring"!
Congratulations to our BOON ALL-STARS for the Second 9 Weeks!

Carson Richardson Memorial Fund
It is not too late to make a donation to the Carson
Richardson Memorial Fund. “Carson's Corner” is being
built in the school library in honor of our Boon Patriot
who lost his battle in first grade to hepatoblastoma, a
rare pediatric cancer, in 2010. Because of Carson's
giving spirit, Carson's Corner will be fashioned
after "The Giving Tree" book and will be a place for our
children to learn, smile and make memories.
Checks may be made payable to the Carson Richardson
Memorial Fund and mailed to:
Kimberly Richardson 5001 Griffen Court McKinney, TX 75070

Gifted and Talented Parent
Information Meeting
January 24
A Gifted and Talented parent information meeting will be held
on Tuesday, January 24 at 6:30 pm at Curtis Middle School.
This meeting is for new and interested parents and students
to learn more abut AISD Gifted and Talented identification
process.
Parent Tip
By requiring kids to do their share of the family chores,
we instill a sense of purpose, belonging, satisfy the
basic human need to be needed, and in the long run,
build self-esteem. To get kids to complete chores,
allow them to do what they want AFTER chores are
finished. (Don't pay them to do their chores. If they'd
like to earn money you can pay them to do some of
yours.
NOTE FROM THE OFFICE
We are seeing an increase in the number of students
that are arriving late to school! Please help us eliminate
these potential truancy problems by helping your kids
get to school on time. Students are late if they are not
in their classroom by 7:55am. You can check your
child’s attendance anytime by logging in to Family
Access by going to www.allenisd.org/boones, select
Family Access from the QUICK LINKS section at the
bottom right side of the Boon homepage. If you need
assistance logging in, please contact Theresa Mata at
