PRAYERS & CONDOLENCES

Your love, O God, is revealed among us in the gift of your Son Jesus, who laid down his life and bestows on us the joy of abiding in your love.

Baptized into Christ, we pray that through the witness we bear you will bring forth fruit that will last, and teach us, God of love, how to love one another.

We ask this through the Lord Jesus, our Passover and our Peace, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

YOUTH ENSEMBLE & PRAISE & WORSHIP

First Holy Communion, Sunday, 11:45am

Catholic Rites of Passage have not changed in anyone’s lifetime. Those of us adults who are committed to following Jesus Christ will have our children Baptized as Christians. In doing this we are acting no differently than the heads of families in the Acts of the Apostles who had their households baptized when the head had accepted Jesus Christ. This is done not out of fear for the death of our children before baptism but rather it is done out of hope that our children would follow in our traditions and be one with Christ, as we are.

Yet Baptism is only the beginning of initiating our children into our faith. We should also be teaching them about our Creator and our Savior as they learn to walk and to speak. Many of our families are also bringing their young children to church well before the children are enrolled in Religious Education classes. As Pastor I am used to the sound of two and three year old during my preaching or during the singing of our choir. As a church community we are used to four and five year olds fidgeting in their seats as the scripture is being read or while the bread and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Christ. Sometimes parents will excuse themselves from Church on account of the behavior of their little children. However, that doesn’t make any Christian sense, since the Lord is clear in Mark, Chapter 10, “let the little children come to me, do not prevent them, for it is to such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs.”

There is no prouder moment for our Parish than to see the children, who have grown up in our midst, receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time in the gathering of our assembly. Many adults in our community volunteer their time as Religious Education teachers in order to help our young prepare for their First Holy Communion. They do that because our children and our Savior are both important to us. Bringing them together uniquely in the Sacrament of the Eucharist is the pinnacle of our Catholic Christian experience.

There are 23 young children of our Parish who will receive their First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 6th, at the 11:45am Mass in St. Charles Borromeo Church. Please come and give them the encouragement they deserve through your active presence at the Mass.

The Great Feasts: Ascension and Pentecost

During the month of May this year we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord (Thursday, May 10th) and the Feast of Pentecost (Sunday, May 20th). These are both Holy Days for Catholics, which are described graphically in the first and second chapters of the Acts of the Apostles.

At our Parish we will offer three Masses on Ascension Thursday, May 10th, at 8:30am with St. Charles School in St. Charles only, at 12Noon in St. Charles only and at 7pm in both St. Charles and Resurrection.

The Feast of Pentecost, which celebrates the coming of the Spirit of God on the Christian Community and, thus, the birthday of the Christian Church, will be celebrated at all Masses on Sunday, May 20th. I encourage the Parish community to wear RED in honor of the Holy Spirit on that day. We will also have celebrations following our Masses in the auditorium at St. Charles and in the cafeteria at Resurrection following our Masses.

LECTURAS, REFLEXIONES Y ORACIONES

LECTURA DEL EVANGELIO Juan 15:917

No
