    What’s happening in Faith Formation?

Today we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the birth of the Mother

of God. My family, going back 3 generations to my great grandmother on my

father’s side (at least as far as I remember), has been celebrating this day as a family

holiday. It is so special a day that my sister and a number of my cousins have all

gotten married on this day. If possible, many of us get together and have a big meal

and the phone rings all day as my dad’s large family all try to connect with each

other. It wasn’t until I was older that I learned the real meaning of the day. I had

asked my then 85 year old grandmother why we celebrated this day. She told me

that her mother, my great grandmother, had said her mother, my great, great

grandmother had asked a request of “the Lady” and it was granted. This granting

had something to do with a child, and it’s become murky as to the exact request but

seeing as my grandmother is one of 17 and my dad has 53 first cousins I have a

feeling it was granted in spades. It was also a day to Thank God and Mary for all we

have, a real celebration of life. So while I’m away visiting with my parents we have

a planned a night out to celebrate this special family day and I’m sure a few calls

and facetime video chats will happen, giving my dad the opportunity to

    reconnect with all the cousins.

So as we say Happy September the 8th to you and yours,

don’t forget to thank Mary for her intercessions,

Class assignments were mailed out. Classes begin the week of Sept 24th

The Mission Statement of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul states: “Vincentians witness God’s Love by embracing all works of charity and justice...the Society makes no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.” Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
