Second Sunday of Advent

Living Stewardship

We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who have the courage, like Mary, to listen to God’s voice in their own hearts and conscientiously pursue the tasks - whatever

they are - to which they have been called.

Page 4: The Parish of - Squarespacestatic.squarespace.com/static/515b8ceae4b0875140c0c40a/t/548212c9e...The Parish of St. Boniface ... Music Jerry Sgambati, Parish Organist Clara Crespo,

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

1) Isaiah 40:1-5, 9:11 2) 2 Peter 3:8-14 3) Mark 1:1-8

FOCUS: God’s promise of a savior brings us comfort and calm. Each Advent we can choose to let the social pressures this time of year overwhelm us or to take a step back and include Christ in all our planning for Christmas. Today, as we hear of John the Baptist preaching in the desert, we need to remember our own need for repentance and our mission to make straight the way of the Lord.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

Isaiah challenges us to be heralds of the good news and prepare the way of the Lord. In the second reading, Peter re-minds us to prepare for the right things and to be at peace and without spot or blemish. Saint Mark’s Gospel begins today with people going out to hear and be baptized by John the Baptist. He tells them of one mightier than he who is coming.

PAGE 4

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT In today’s Gospel John the Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of the Lord,” and this is what Advent is all about. We are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our hearts, in our family, and to reach out to those in need. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor to celebrate Christmas.

As the Christmas Season approaches, and as you prepare for gift giving among your friends and family,

we invite you to think about those members of our community who are less fortunate than you.

Each year, the Parish Human Services, in cooperation with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, provides food and gifts for the poor.

This year we are asking you to take at least one card (located at the doors of the upper Church) and purchase a gift card for that family

member. The gift card can be purchased at a store of your choice.

Please place the numbered card, the gift card and a receipt indicating the amount of the gift card in an envelope and return it

to Human Services Office in the school building. Please bring all gift cards by Sunday, December 14, 2014.

Thank you for your concern on behalf of the poor.

THE HUMAN SERVICES OFFICE WILL BE OPEN AFTER ALL MASSES ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2014 TO RECEIVE YOUR GIFTS.
