To acknowledge and celebrate the huge impact that Mrs Grace Reinhardt had on Woombye State School and Community during her forty (40) years as a teacher, the Woombye State School P&C Association created the “Grace Reinhardt” Award to be presented annually. This award is presented to a Year Three student who models the five keys of the “You Can Do It” Program and is a wonderful example of a student who shines as an ‘all-rounder’. This year, the award was presented to Niamh S Congratulations Niamh. As the sun sets on another wonderful year at Woombye State School, we bid a sad farewell to the students and families who leave us at the end of this year. This includes our Year 6 students who are leaving for high school as well as the families who are moving to other schools and locations. To these students and families, we extend our thanks for being a part of our terrific school and wish you all the very best for your future endeavours. To all of our returning families, we trust you will enjoy a wonderful Christmas Holiday and we look forward to seeing the many smiling faces return on Monday 22 nd January 2018. Christmas Concert 2017:- We nearly made it this year but a storm at 2:25pm took away our electrical power leaving us one performance short of completing this year’s concert. The students who did perform were fantastic. A huge congratulations to Mrs Amanda Roberts for organising this event each year. The students love performing for others and this showed on Tuesday afternoon. A huge thank you also to the parents and family members who sat in the audience as the students performed. The amount of support was fantastic. It was a spectacular way to end the year. Staff Changes for 2018:- It is with sadness that we announce the leaving of two wonderful teachers from Woombye State School at the end of this year. Mr Mike Rieger who has been with us since July 2008 and Mr Tom Dawson who has been with us since January 1990 will both be leaving Woombye State School at the end of this school year. We wish both teachers all the very best for the next chapters in their lives and thank them for the awesome impact and influence they have had on our students and school during the time they were with us. Incoming Teachers:- In 2018, we welcome the following teachers to our wonderful school:- Louise Brereton and Thomas Brereton (coming in from Dysart), Wendy Weidinger (coming in from Normanton) and Paul McCall (coming in from Northern Peninsula area). Tina’s Business

Dear Parents,

What an eventful afternoon we had Tuesday. Thank you to all parents who came along to our Carols even with the storm that tried to blow us away. All the students sang beautifully. Thank you Mrs Roberts and staff for all your hard work. It is such a pleasure to

be part of this festive time in our school.

What a year we have had. It is hard to believe that this is our last newsletter for 2017. I am sure there must be a fast forward button someone has been pressing to make the time fly so quickly. I would like to thank our wonderful staff and students for making me

feel so welcomed. All of our staff are dedicated, passionate and committed to everything they do, and for that I thank them. We have a great school and I feel very privileged to be part of it.

I am sad the year is finished. It is a time we say farewell to some of our students and families who are leaving us at the end of the year. We also say farewell to some extraordinary staff members, Mr Tom Dawson and Mr Mike Reiger, I trust they will enjoy the

next chapter of their lives.

Wednesday night we also said farewell to our Year 6 students. We wish them all the very best for High School in 2018. As they go, I encourage all our Year 6’s to remember, the words of Dr Suess…

Today is your day.

You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself

any direction you choose.

This is your story, your path, embrace the future, and remember to work hard so that you get to reap the rewards you deserve.

Have a safe and restful break; enjoy your time with your families. I am looking forward with excitement to see what 2018 brings.

Thank you again

Tina

Renovations and Works Over Christmas:- The School Administration Office will close at 3:30pm tomorrow, Friday 8th December. During the Christmas holidays, renovations will take place in the Office and Library area. During the renovations, barriers will be placed around the buildings. Many of these barriers will still be in place when most of the School Staff return to work on Thursday 18th January 2018. Please follow the signs and directions to gain access to the Office area in 2018.

Oval Works:- Throughout the Christmas break, work will take place around the school ovals. This work is designed to alleviate the erosion problems around the ovals as well as improve access to the ovals. This work will start during the Christmas Break and will continue into Term One of 2018. “Student Resource Scheme 2018”:- The “Woombye State School Student Resource Scheme” will continue again in 2018. The purpose of the scheme is to provide the parent/carer with a cost effective alternative to purchasing the prescribed textbooks and/or resources elsewhere, through reduced prices gained from the school’s bulk purchasing practices. This is particularly evident with enrolling in the “ABC Reading Eggs/Reading Eggspress”, “Mathseeds” and “Mathletics” Programs as well as bulk purchases of personal whiteboards and whiteboard markers, boxes of tissues, reams of photocopying paper, and USB’s. This provides up to $350.00 value for only $60.00. On Monday, 5th December “Expressions of interest” for the Student Resource Scheme were sent home with the Student Report Cards from Prep to Year 5. Please ensure these forms are returned to school by tomorrow, Friday 8th December. Student Report Cards:- All Student Report Cards were distributed to the students on Monday, 4th December. If you do not receive your child’s Report Card on the Monday, please contact the Office immediately. Booklists for 2018:- The Class Booklists for 2018 are now available for next year.
