INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION
THE OZONE LAYER
Presented By : Professor :
Rajvinder S Yogi Judy Mussio
Sarbrinder S Dhillon
Introduction
Protective blanket of earth.
Present in lower portion of stratosphere.
Absorbs most of sun’s Ultra violet radiations.
Drop in ozone levels in atmosphere lead to
“ozone holes”.
IntroductionWe will be discussing:
How ozone layer getting depleted ?
What are the effects of the ozone layer depletion ?
How we can resolve these problem?
Why we chose this:
Spread awareness on extent of problem: Prime reason leading to global warming.
What is at stake!
To initiate efforts on individual level being responsible citizen of country.
To secure life of present and future generations by making this planet livable for all of us.
Group Members- Rajvinder and Sarbrinder.
Causes
Release of harmful gases like:
CFC, HCFC, Methyl Bromide
o Used in Air-conditioners, Refrigerators, fire extinguishers.
VOC(Volatile organic compounds)
o Emitted by vehicles.
Natural Disasters: Volcanic eruption (Carlowicz, 2013)
Causes
Sun Spots and Stratosphere winds.
Low Temperature.
Harmful gases reach
stratosphere
Get Exposed to UV rays
Breakdown to free chlorine which
reacts with ozone causing ozone
depletion
Effects Damage to skin by depletion of the ozone layer:
Main factor in influencing development of Skin Cancer.
Pre-mature aging of the skin.
Effects on plants and animals:
Disturb photosynthesis process; lower yield from plant and cereal crops.
Inhibit growth process of flora and fauna; thus food supply.
Decreasing plankton population which is primary
source of food in marine ecosystem.
Effects Effects on eye sight:
Damage lens and cornea.
Fatal diseases like cataracts in particular and even loss of eyesight.
In General:
Rise in global temperature.
Sunburn issue with frequent exposure to sun.
Weaken immune system lead to lower resistance to diseases(Canada, 2015).
Solutions Exposure to sun with precautions:
Must use sun screen to protect skin.
Must use sun glasses to protect eyes.
Plant more trees and avoid usage of pesticide.
Buying and using recycled products.(Austin,2015)
Solutions
Harmful gases ban:
Alternate to CFC,HCFC must be introduced by
the manufacturers of AC, Fridge etc.
Protocols should be introduced on provincial and federal level
to keep check on use of such gases during industrial processes.
Conclusion
Harmful gases are the main cause of Ozone depletion.
It risk the lives of living being.
Protocols implemented and results are better..
Volunteer action for future generations.
Whole word must join hand and spread awareness about
the issue of the ozone layer depletion.
Your small efforts could make a big difference.
Lasting Thought
Lets come together and make this planet better place to live.
Use the precious resources given by nature.
Lets take a pledge not to destroy our home our earth.
