Setting the Scene:Come inside. Dally told us to stay inside.

A weeks supply of baloney, two loaves of bread, a box of matches Johnny went on. By the 5th day, Ponyboy was tired of baloney and was smoking more than usual.

Taking a Road Trip:Dally did always like to drive fast, as if he didnt care whether he would get there or not, and we came down the red dirt road off Jay Mountain doing 85.

Dallys CarStop at the Dairy Queen: Ponyboy got a Pepsi and gorged on BBQ sandwiches with Johnny.

Returning from Dairy Queen: Dally suddenly slammed on brakes and stared. Oh, glory! he whispered. The church was on fire. Lets go see what the deal is.

Whats going on? Well we dont know for sure. We were having a school picnic up here and the first thing we knew, the place is burning up.

Stray Cigarette in Abandoned Church? I bet we started it. We must have dropped a lighted cigarette or something.

Where are the Children?Jerry, some kids are missing. I told them not to play in the churchI told them Ill get them, dont worry!

Ponyboy & Johnny Save the Day!Shut up! Were going to get you out! The kid looked surprised and quit hollering. I blinked myself. Johnny wasnt behaving at all like him old self.

The Children are Saved!A crowd was there by that time. We dropped the last of the kids out as the front of the church started to crumble. Johnny shoved me toward the window. Get out!

Then I heard Johnny scream, and as I turned back for him, Dally swore at me and clubbed me across the back as hard as he could, and I went down into a peaceful darkness.

Take it easy kid. Youre in an ambulance. Just calm down. Youre going to be okay. You just passed out. I didnt either! Dallas hit me. How come? Because your back was in flames, thats why.

Are you taking us to the police station? What would we want to take you to the police station for? Were taking all three of you to the hospital.
