This money will be used to provide supplies and equipment for the sport. The Osage County 4-H Shooting Sports is designed to help youth ages eight through 18 develop safety and technique in shooting sports. Justin Corbet was a young man, whose life was cut short and loved the great outdoors and shooting sports. His foundation is dedicated to his memory and is committed to provid- ing leadership, support and financial assistance to quali- fied programs and individu- als dedicated to providing family oriented hunting, shooting and educational ac- tivities to youth, women and persons with disabilities. Osage County 4-H Shooting Sports holds events at 15303 S. Osage Rd., Burlingame. Archery will be held 9 to 11 a.m. March 30, April 6, April 13, April 20 and April 27. Small bore rifle and pistol will be held 9 to 11 a.m. June 1, June 8, June 15 and June 22. End of year fun shoot will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 25. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair to events. Osage County 4-H receives grant Bella Reeser | Club Reporter Melvern Junior Highline 4-H Club met Feb. 3 at Melvern Community Center. During January’s meeting, it was decided to have parents play the role of their child’s office. The meeting was called to order by President Adam Green. He led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and 4-H Pledge. Roll call was taken by Secretary Lisa Reeser. Mem- bers and parents answered roll call with their middle name. Fourteen members and 11 parents were present. The January minutes and treasurer’s report were ap- proved as read. Reporter Lisa Reeser said one article had been submitted last month to the Osage County Herald- Chronicle newspaper. In leader’s report, Caleb and Lisa reminded members of District Club Days on Feb. 23 at West Franklin High School, Pomona. Members need to be registered by Feb. 13 to participate. In new business, members needed to elect a represen- tative from the club for the Osage Council fundraiser. Caleb McNally won the nomi- nation. In program, Landon Roy gave a project talk over what he looks forward to in 4-H. In songs, Heidi Arb, Jennifer Roy and Caleb McNally led the club in singing, “Boom Chicka Boom.” For recre- ation, Jennifer Roy led the club in a game of “Simon Says.” Refreshments were pro- vided by the Roy family. The next meeting will be 5 p.m. Sunday, March 3. Project talk/demonstration will be given by Braelyn and Gradey McNally and refreshments will be served by McNally family. With the community’s help, the Scouts donated 230 cans of soup and 35 boxes of crackers Feb. 4. Members received a tour of the site and learned more about the mission of Help House. Saturday Women’s Con- nection of Topeka invites all women to a “Shape Up for Spring” luncheon 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka. WOMENS CONNECTION Dance Spot Diamond Company Dancers kicked off their 2019 competition season Feb. 1 with compe- tion at Stage One Midwest Regional, Springfield, Mo. The dancers captured both first place titles in the small group novice and intermediate brackets for the teen divisions, along with additional top 10 placements for more than 17 routines they were up against in both competition levels. Junior group dancers captured three top 10 overall placements with a jazz routine and placed the highest with a fourth overall title. Other top awards included duets in the teen intermediate bracket, third and junior novice bracket, second overall. The dancers received five double plati- num ratings, the highest you can score for routines. Other awards included four judges choice awards and Top 10 Overall Soloist titles in the junior, teen and senior brackets. Caitlyn Heronomie, Carbondale, placed fourth overall and Kaylin Claypool, Overbrook, placed ninth overall out of 25 soloists entered in the rising stars junior brackets. Justice Houston, Alma, placed fourth overall, Bella Wade, Alma, placed seventh overall and Daija Parker, Wamego, placed ninth overall in the teen rising stars bracket. Carlee Broyles, Burlington, placed seventh overall and Madison Laster, Carbondale, placed ninth overall in the senior intermediate solo bracket.
