YEAR-END REFLECTIONS
Warmest Greetings dear
Fellow Olympians!
The year 2010 was very
good to us. We have dreamt, we have
seen the vision and all our aspirations
are now a reality. In a matter of about 4
months we have done the following:
1. Organized and had ourselves
registered with Rotary International
with marked distinction having been
recognized as one of the largest clubs to
be chartered in recent years.
2. Our organization and membership
recruitment/development were as
remarkable. To my knowledge, this was
in conformity with the set guidelines all
the way with added bonus as having the
most esteemed mentors on Rotary
education in the district to be our
speakers. Of course, we had 2
distinguished mother clubs, RCs
Makati Central and Makati Urdaneta
and a DGSR in the person of DGN Sue
Sta. Maria and certainly our chartering
Governor Ed Alvarez who helped us
learn our first steps in Rotary. We
could not ask for more.
3. Upon chartering, it was easy to start
with our service endeavors as our
chosen communities – Bgy. Olympia,
Pateros and Tuhian in Catanauan,
Quezon - welcomed us with open arms.
It had been a fulfilling 4 months
working in these communities.
4. On putting a structure to our new
club - we have all the necessary
elements - a constitution and by-laws
which embody our club's governing
laws and guidelines; a functioning set of
officers all in accordance with our
constitution and by-laws; service

The Rotary Club of Makati Olympia
(RCMO) kept itself busy over the long holidays culminating with a matched club agreement with Rotary Club Bandung, Indonesia on December 27.
RCMO President Nominee and concurrent Chair of the Sub-committee on International Service Renny Harman was on hand for the singing which took place in Bandung. It is RCMO’s first matched club from Indonesia and
It is the second foreign matched club, RC Namyang, South Korea being its first. RC Bandung, Indonesia is the biggest club in Indonesia with 54 members, 39 of which are active. It is one of the clubs of D-3400. CP of the Club is Ameriawati Atmadibrata.
RCMO presented the new matched club a laminated Declaration of Rotarians in Business and Profession table top standee as memento of the occasion.
MESSAGE
Dear President Rose,
First and foremost, I wish to thank you, your officers and directors, and your members, for the very warm reception accorded to me and Lady Mariz, as well as my team, during your Governor’s visit last December 21.
Your club is barely four months old and you have already achieved a lot. You proved that it is ideal to have an experienced Rotarian as a Charter President.

partners - matched clubs - 2 foreign (Rotary Club of Namyang
Korea and Rotary Club of Bandung Indonesia) with another in
the pipeline; 8 local (RC San Francisco del Monte, Q.C., RC
Marilao Bulacan, RC Marikina North, RC Pasig West, RC
Malate Prime, RC Los Banos, RC Los Banos Makiling and RC
Metro Tanauan) and 3 in the pipeline; 15 sponsored duly
registered Interact clubs in a matter of 3 months after
chartering which is a world record set according to DIC Yasin
Badr; 3 Rotaract Clubs and 7 more in the pipeline, 2 RCCs and
7 more in the pipeline, 1 Rotakid; other logistics and club IDs
like the club brochure, logo, motto and a song.
5. Signature and Service projects - Busog Lusog Talino which
we are doing with Jose Magsaysay Elementary School, Lingkod
Olympia which we have started like the Anti-Dengue
Campaign, Responsible Pet Ownership, Environment
Conservation through Tree planting and seedling donation,
Coastal Bay Cleaning, Youth Development Activities which we
are soaring high. This is really something that we should be
very proud of. Our youth are invaluable and most
commendable is our Service to New Gen Committee for letting
our flag fly so high!
6. PR - our Bulletin is acknowledged to be very good. It has
received rave reviews which even our dearest Gov Ed
mentioned during our Governor's visit. We have our Multiply
site and our Facebook account which are well visited. We have
many articles in our District Website and GML.
All of the above were made possible because of God's
guidance and blessings for you and I. They are a testament
that RCMO is meant to be for God wills it to be. In this
regard, all of us are called to be part of this great club because
we fit in His plan for it. While it is oft-repeated that Rotary is
a volunteer organization and Rotarians can just opt do what
they want, for RCMO it is a commitment - an answer to
God's call.
The second semester of this Rotary year is here. We still
have many things to learn in our commitment to our calling.
It is my prayer that the few days respite to the hustle and
bustle of our Rotary endeavors has given us more time to
search our hearts on our aspirations for our club in relation to
ourselves. As Rotarians, we have basic duties and
responsibilities like paying our dues, attending our meetings
and participating in our activities, promoting friendship and
camaraderie with our fellow Rotarians and members of the
Rotary family, having a thirst to learn more of this
organization we are with, practicing its core values in our
personal lives and in our profession and most of all being
proud of it. Where are we in these?
So, for those who have not yet paid their dues, I invite you to
ask yourselves this - Is Rotary a burden financially or is it my
way of sharing myself because I believe in its causes?
For those who have difficulty in attending meetings and
participating our service activities - Is RCMO too much to cope
with as it eats a lot of my personal time? Is the time I spend not
worth my while? For those who have not found friendship and camaraderie, is
there something wrong?
For those who find learnings in Rotary boring - why?
Are we proud to be Olympians and Rotarians?
My dearest Olympians, I am posting these introspective
questions to help us in our self examination.
While we have done excellently in many of the areas as a club,
we lag behind in the following:
1. Most of us have not completed our payment of our dues. I
strongly enjoin all to settle this soonest as our Semi-Annual
report is due by Jan 31. All our above accomplishments will be
for naught if we will be unable to pay our RI dues.
2. Our TRF contribution has not been remitted (i) which is good
because we are waiting to have a matching grant done, and (ii)
which is not so good because of the unpaid balance on the annual
dues.
3. We need to pay for our magazine subscription which is also
mandatory. Again, this is covered by our annual dues.
4. Our attendance is still wanting.
5. Commitment for the DISCON attendance is being asked.
6. Membership Recruitment, Development and Retention need
to improve.
7. Prudence in the use of our funds.
As we start with 2011, we will also commence with the Hand
Holding Program. President-Elect Jay Bataclan and I shall share
the club leadership to prepare him for his term. By Tuesday, we
shall hold our first regular Board meeting and Club Assembly for
2011 at the Tennis Pavilion, Manila Polo Club. I call on all to
make time for these. We shall discuss our plans and programs for
the second semester. This will include on the short term our
Induction on Jan 25 for Sabine Haak and Jasmine Gonzales and
all new recruits who can still accomplish all our requirements to
be elected into active membership. I commend the Service to New
Generations Committee for presenting to me their plans.
I have presented to you as transparently and objectively as
possible the state of our dearest club. All of us have a stake in it.
Please, let us hold each other's hand so that together we will be in
unison to face the New Year with greater zest and passion for a
bigger, bolder and better RCMO!
In closing, I thank you for answering God's call and for
making RCMO your home. Let me share with you the letter of
District Governor Ed Alvarez to RCMO on his December 21
visit. This, I hope, will be one of our inspirations in our journey
ahead.
God bless us all this New Year and always!
With Al, Ron and Paw, I remain your servant,
CP Rose

Message from Gov. Ed Alvarez cont’d from
p.1
On membership, you were chartered with 54 members which I believe is the highest record since I can recall. While you are now down to 37, it is still alright as this is part of growing up. Please reconcile your membership though with the website of Rotary International as the membership count I downloaded, just recently, was 39.
On TRF contributions, I am glad that while you have not remitted any contributions to The Rotary Foundation, you have already allocated $100 from the membership fee that you have been collecting from your members at the rate of P1,000 a month. Please try to remit said TRF contributions by February 28, 2011 so that you can already be an “All-EREY” club by the time we have our District Conference (DISCON).
Allow me also to congratulate you for an excellent presentation. Given your 45 points in Club Service, 50 points in Vocational Service, 45 points in Community Service and 35 points in International Service, you have already qualified for a Presidential Citation with Distinction. Given your many outstanding accomplishments, I am sure that you are also on your way to receiving a Gold under our Global Awards System.
I also wish to recognize your outstanding club bulletin, “The Olympians”, which is rich with Rotary information and very consistent. Thanks too for dedicating your last issue to me.
I am likewise glad that you have so many partners in service, with 15 registered Interact clubs, 3 Rotaract clubs with 7 more in the pipeline and 2 RCCs with 7 more in the pipeline. I am glad to meet many of them during my visit.
I am also happy that you have also adopted a community in Pateros, other than Barangary Olympia, as Pateros is part of our district but unfortunately, we still don’t have a Rotary club in the said municipality.
I am also pleased that you have already three Presidents in waiting namely PE Jay Bataclan, PN1 Renny Harman and PN2 Wilbert Zamuco. Kindly get together and prepare already a three-year plan for your club.
I am also encouraging you to bring as many members to our forthcoming DISCON on March 18-19.
Lastly, I wish to thank you, most sincerely, for still performing your other duties as Deputy District Secretary and as Associate Director of The Rotary Academy other than performing an excellent job of leading a great club in Rotary Club of Makati Olympia.
Keep up the great work. More power.
Best Regards, Eduardo R. Alvarez
ROTARY INFORMATION OF THE WEEK…
The RI Strategic Plan In 2001-02, as Rotary International entered its second
century of service, it began developing a strategic plan to
guide the organization. The plan has been reviewed and
updated periodically since.
In 2009, the Board conducted an extensive review of the
RI Strategic Plan. This review included surveying 14,000
Rotarians worldwide about the organization’s priorities,
conducting focus groups to assess Rotary’s image in
different countries, and analyzing other data and
research. The revised plan, effective July 1, 2010, reflects
the results of this research and also unifies the strategic
direction of RI and The Rotary Foundation.
Mission
We provide service to others, promote integrity, and
advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace
through our fellowship of business, professional, and
community leaders.
Vision
We will be the service organization of choice with
dynamic, action-oriented clubs whose contributions
improve lives in communities worldwide.

RI Board approves shift to a resource, support model for programs
by Ryan Hyland
The World Community Service and Rotary Volunteers programs will be phased out by June 30 to reinforce the priorities and goals of the RI Strategic Plan and to shift from a program-based model to a resource and support model.
The goal of this new model, approved by the RI Board at its November meeting, is to expand the resources available to clubs for connecting and partnering with each other. "A significant component of Rotary’s new strategic plan is the transformation of Rotary’s involvement from monitoring, regulating, and administering specific projects to functioning in a highly supportive mode of providing clubs and districts with essential resources in their international service," says RI Director Kenneth W. Grabeau

"It is likely that the form and function of Friendship Exchanges will evolve as we implement the strategic plan to better provide necessary resources and essential support to clubs and districts," Grabeau says.
Rotary International staff will also be improving ProjectLINK, RI’s projects database.
The RI Programs staff looks forward to providing support and guidance to clubs on their service projects. Please contact international.service @rotary.org if you have any questions or concerns regarding these changes.

The World Community Service program has helped Rotarians find partners for international service projects. RI will continue to fully support Rotarians in their efforts to serve communities in other countries.
While recognizing the importance of Rotary Volunteers, the Board supported an approach to volunteerism that would provide guidance and resources to a greater number of Rotarians, clubs, and districts. Rotarians are encouraged to include volunteers on service projects, both locally and abroad.
"The primary benefits of this evolution are a greater focus on club and district service, enhanced resources in the development of sustainable and more significant projects, and the development of cooperative relationships between and among the participating parties," Grabeau says.
In the coming months, the Rotary Friendship Exchange program will be
